Lewis & Scheidler - MAC Players of the Week!!

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

Scheidler and Lewis Named MAC POW
Jimmy Scheidler and Kenny Lewis Named MAC POW's.

Sept. 1, 2008

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Kenny Lewis and Jimmy Scheidler, members of the Bowling Green State University football, team, have been named Mid-American Conference Players of the Week this afternoon (Sept. 1), announced by the league officed. Lewis earned the league's defensive award, while Scheidler was named the MAC's Offensive Player of the Week.

Lewis, a senior defensive back, recorded six tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, one pass breakup and one interception in the Falcons' 27-17 win over #25 Pittsburgh, the Falcons first win over a nationally-ranked opponent in five years. Lewis also would have walked away with a 65-yard touchdown return if not for an inadvertent whistle in the second half.

Scheidler entered last Saturday's contest with one career reception for minus-4 yards, but in the 2008 season opener the junior recorded three receptions for 30 yards, including two scores. He also had a 22-yard reception on the Falcons winning drive in the third quarter.

Lewis, Scheidler and the Falcons play host to Minnesota this Saturday (Sept. 6) at 7:30 p.m.

Jimmy was one of the fellas I lived with in Ashley my sophomore year (his freshman year).

My room mate from that year and I have been waiting three years to see him play, and on Saturday he did not disappoint. Way to go Jimmy, you made Turkey and I proud this weekend.

What a small world it is. Turns out Jimmy and Cody Basler (also lived on our floor) live just down the block from my house now. I believe we may need to stop by and congratulate the fellas some time before Minny.

You guys can't imagine how proud you made us in Pittsburgh this weekend.
Yeah right girl!

More thoughts later (we only got in from the extended celebration a couple hours ago), but BIG props to Jimmy for the TD grabs. I've talked with him at a few Indy alumni gatherings and his dad is a super nice, humble guy. We ran into him at halftime and he was happy as could be expected. Both those playcalls were excellent and well-timed (Having FB and/or AT back there to throw a flip pass after a half-dozen off-tackle runs is almost unfair). I was thrilled to see it was Jimmy on the receiving end. Shocked to see he was named POW, but way cool!!!

What a great way for BG to start this season that looked like it was going to be very tumultuous. Nice to see things turning around!!! Keep up the good work, gentlemen, and lets get two more POW awards this week against Minny!

A tight end being the difference maker in our offense? Go figure.

Hats off to both players!

'87,

After the first TD pass to Jimmy, I turned to the guy behind me and said "We just threw to the TE??? We don't have a TE!". We sure do now. I hope Jimmy becomes a BiG part of the O scheme.

The second TD catch was a helluva grab. Lewis was outstanding.

Not two minutes after Jimmy's dad told us "Pete Winovich really created that position (FB/TE) that Jimmy's stepped into.", Pete walked by and said something about wanting partial credit for the TD catches.
