Tye Smith's arguments are like American drivers in England. They are always on the wrong side and usually end up in a disastrous wreck.

But I digress. Let's talk about Urban.

Coach Meyer is going nowhere. If every coaching rumor were true, every school would have 15 head coaches and every coach would have a career of about 10 minutes.

Heck, Wayne Fontes would have been fired more than 500 times.

So instead of freaking out over Florida mentioning its interest in Meyer, let's look at the reasons why he will stay.

First off, the argument that, "He left Bowling Green, hence he would leave Utah just as easily," is plain farce. Have you ever been to Bowling Green? I have, and it's not pretty.

Picture flat, desolate plains. Now, multiply that by a trillion billion and you have Bowling Green University. Add the fact that it has a tiny athletic budget and competes in the backwater Mid-American Conference, and you have a grade-A difference from our home university.

Meyer has said many times that he had to wait months just to get the Bowling Green locker room painted. At Utah, he wiggled his ears and twiddled his nose, and voilà! A new indoor practice facility. Voilà! A new sports radio station revolving around the Utes. Voilà! Plans for adding 10,000 seats to Rice-Eccles. It's amazing what working with a superb athletisc director and some deep-pocketed boosters will do.

It's also no secret that Shelley "the ultimate decision maker" Meyer is enamored with the area. She has said on record that she loves the mountains, dating back to Meyer's days coaching at CSU. I don't recall seeing much mountainous terrain last time I was in Gainesville. Or South Bend. Or Ann Arbor.

Just the practical aspect of moving the family would be a tough sell to the coach. He has three children in school who have already been moved several times. Meyer said he almost called off the move to Utah when his daughter bawled her eyes out after being told she would have to leave her friends yet again. I don't have kids, but I assume that wouldn't exactly be a fun experience. Continued...

And what about the players? I can't really picture Steve Fifita bawling, but if McBride's players were sad to see him go, imagine what the Utes would do when a coach with much more success left.

Meyer said that when he left Bowling Green, he thought the players would give him a pat on the back and say "Good luck coach!" Not exactly. His decision was instead met with anger and confusion. They considered him a traitor, and they let him know it.

Monetarily, there is no question that Florida, or any other big school, has the resources to give Meyer a raise. That's just the way it is in the BCS world. However, Jon Huntsman has said that Meyer will never leave for monetary reasons. Majerus had his chances to go to other schools, but never did. Huntsman gave Majerus the perks he would have gotten at the other universities, and Majerus stayed.

Huntsman knows a bankable coach when he sees one. He knows that keeping Meyer would be good business for the university.

The funniest reason I've heard for Meyer leaving is also the most absurd. (Strange how that works).

Many in the national and local press are trumpeting the link between Meyer and current Florida President Bernie Machen. You may remember Machen as the former president at Utah. The press is making them out to be best buds. They say that since Machen hired Meyer, all it would take is a snap of the fingers to get Meyer to follow him to the Everglades. Heck, Machen would even throw in free dental work for the Meyer kids.

That's a ridiculous argument. It was Chris Hill who brought Meyer to Salt Lake City. Machen just signed the contract. It's the same as saying former Devil Ray Tanyon Sturtze signed with the Yankees because George Steinbrenner is from Tampa. Coincidences don't create reasons. In the end, it will be Meyer's decision. Not the media's, not Albert the Gator's, not Shelley's (well, maybe Shelley's).

The only thing I know for sure is that anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool. Urban Meyer is staying at Utah.

Who cares? That's Utah's problem. I am interested in what Coach Brandon is doing here at BGSU.

Thanks, Urban, for getting our program off the mat. But more thanks go to Coach B and staff for taking it higher! :supz:

UM has a career plan and "senic view" is not a part of it. There is a reason he has an escape clause built into his contract for the head coaching job at Notre Dame, Michigan, or Ohio State. He is a mid-west Catholic boy and this is where he wants to be.

He went to Utah for the money, and while the MWC is the equivelent of the MAC, there is more exposure. Additionally, he needed to tweak a good team, not rebuild a bad one, in order to be sucessful there.

BG is what it is. And that includes a tradition of winning. What UM has is a philosophy. "Play fast, Play Hard"; self-discipline; and a commitment to players and coaches that "do the right things the right way". He makes good players great and isn't afraid to get rid of scholarship jocks who "steal from the program" by not committing 100%. He is not a "players coach" he is a winning coach. We'll see what happens when his players leave and Brandon and Beckman's get their shot.
