How are we better next year?

Post by Rollo83 »

With this year about gone, I look to next year. Given the senior leadership leaving the program after this year how are we a better team next year?

We lose three on the O-line (Curtis, Fink and Kent), playmakers (Parks, Partridge, Turner) and both special teams guys (Iovinelli and Vrvilo).

On defense we lose Lewis, Smith, Haneline, Dozier, Baker, Schaefer, Briggs and Davis.

We'll be starting all over again. At least we have our coaching staff coming back

Tip. Keep your expectations extremely low. If you have no expectations of a East div. Championship or a MACC or a bowl game there won't be too much to be disappointed about.

Not to take anything away from the seniors, but.....what leadership has exactly been shown so far? The leader on this team is a junior.

Good thing you threw the "about" into that sentence. :-D

The entire conference is going to be good next year... it will be the year of the QB again... the number of JR/Sr lead teams with QBs with 2-3 years worth of experience... so long as nate davis stays it will be 8 of 12 qbs that will be in their third year or fourth year of starting.

Time will tell, but I've read a number of places that Davis is expected to head to the draft this year. It may end up depending on who else declares, but this is a horrendous year for Senior QB talent. There are a number of underclassmen that would find themselves as first rounders if they declared. Davis is one that could be a first rounder, but he's also not going to be ranked above the likes of Stafford or Bradford if they were to also declare early. If the bigger names go back to school Davis could be a lock for a first rounder, though.

Interesting decision for him, to be sure.

http://bowlinggreen.scout.com/a.z?s=337 ... =2&yr=2009

According to scout.com, we have the 80th best Recruiting Class for 2009, which is 3rd best in the MAC, behind CMU and WMU.

However, the MAC is ranked 11th out of the 12 FBS Conferences (including Independents)...maybe this will improve by the time Signing Day rolls around?...

PS - Toledo has 3 Commits...that's 114th out of 119 Clubs :-)

Not that it's a big deal, but I believe Iovinelli is only a JUNIOR this year...he was a JC transfer who'd only played one year if I recall correctly. You're right on the other guys though...Our new "Blocks of Granite" will need to really step it up for the Offense to be even half decent. We still have plenty of WR's on the roster, several of whom have played quite a bit. RB could be a problem, but if Rice is as good as he looked on Sat., Ransom, Jeter and he (Rice) should be a pretty good "3-some"...Plus, we have allegedly commits from several RBs...most of whom are smallish ... and I'm hoping quick.
Defense will be the BIG question mark as losing veteran LB's and CB's is going to hurt a lot unless some of the redshirted kids can step in to fill the holes.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
