Furthermore, last Saturday, you claimed that you e-mailed Greg Christopher that you were not going to donate your typical $25,000. Lucky for falcon athletics, you had someone die this week so you could come back to BG and even more fortunate, run into Greg Chistopher during Thanksgiving week to give him the big donation. hahahahahhahahahahahahahah. You are ridiculous

I have no idea how it was structured or what clauses it consisted of, but I’m stunned this happened at BG. My thoughts would have been: with one year remaining, maybe. Two years remaining, not likely. Three years remaining, no way. I didn’t really see this one coming at all.
Channel 13 reported that we would be paying coach Brandon a $250k buyout. That almost assuredly means, Christopher realized he needed a change and found alumni willing to fork that money over to buy him out. I doubt very seriously if that money came directly from the standard athletic department budget, it almost had to be privately funded.

If that is the case we have entered a new era for Falcon athletics.

For one we've finally, for the first time I can ever remember, made the statement that mediocrity will not get it done. Not when it comes to on the field product, or off the field behavior. We are now demanding excellence, contract situation means nothing.

Secondly, it also means we have found alumni wealthy enough to have their voices heard. This is something all major programs deal with, and it can create an interesting dynamic. Now, I don't see our alumni base ever getting to the point where they can afford to be as knee jerk as some of the big boys, but it does mean that there are people with the money & power to have our AD's ear.

On the surface the implications of this move are simply that we need to find a new head football coach. Looking a little deeper though, it says to me that we have an AD that is committed to excellence, and he's finding the funding to ensure we accept nothing less. I'll be VERY interested to see what sort of contract we offer up to our new head coach. I've said for the past couple years if we can find upwards of $20 million to fund new facilities, that we should be able to find enough cash to start paying our coaches better. Hopefully that comes to fruition.

I, for one, welcome our new excellence-seeking overlord.

I did not see this coming, either, that's for sure.

Everyone check out the Falcon Club levels and donations. Look at the names and you tell me if poster gmartin, who did provide his real name last Saturday in a post, is one of them. Hahaha. What a liar. Nobody from Indy and nobody with the name he provided last Saturday.

What is your problem Mr. joined on 11/22/2008 and has made only 5 posts at of right now? Are you finally coming to the realization that the Blackney days are over? Those lists are not updated in real time, the Falcon Club staff has far more to do than enter a name each time a check is donated. Since you are so uptight about gmartain's real name let me turn things around. What is your name?? Mine is Matt Lyons.

All I know is that I hope Christopher is not deciding to start a search now. If they don't have a short-list of 2-3 coaches they want for the job, then this was a bad, knee-jerk decision.

Any chance Tressel's tired of kicking the ever-loving s**t out of Michigan?

I wanted this to happen, many of you know that. But now that it has I will say Thank you to Greg Brandon and his staff for doing all they knew how to do in representing BGSU. With his recent comments as a rare exception he is a great guy. But as I said about Dan Dakich, he is not "the guy" for BGSU right now. I would wish Greg Brandon good luck in future endeavors. It must be tough to be under the microscope of coaching and for the most part you handle it well. You may have been let go, but you still left in a classier manner than your predecessor. Thank you coach!

It was a banner week in the Brandon household. GB got to rip the fans, beat Toledo, get a nice fat buyout, and gets to leave a place that it seems he really didn't want to be.

If we had beat Buffalo, he wouldn't have made those comments, we would have been in the MAC title game, and he would have been back next year.

I think he committed "suicide by cop". GC almost had to let him go or else our attendance would have really been in the toilet next year with declining donations after what he said. Which makes me wonder if BG had a basis to let him go with cause and not pay him anything? Where's Al Davis when you need him?

Now some other school will get to enjoy watching their offense in shotgun formation on 4th-and-inches.

Damn, guess I need to check in here more often on the weekend! :o

Completely shocked with all the others. I'm glad that a change is being made. I wish Coach Brandon all the success in the world whereever he ends up (unless it's in the MAC).

gmartin and Matt Lyons

1. How many posts does one have to have to be considered legitimate?

2. Obviously, things are not updated in real time. The report that I received and that ALL donors receive in November/December (not February) as gmartin alluded to references last year. According to Gmartin, he donated $25,000 plus LAST YEAR but it was no reported, lol. He claimed to have donated that amount for at least the past eight years which would put him over $200,000 total donated, making him one of the largest donors in the history of Bowling Green. Again, no record of that.

I could care less who donates what. What I do care is when some blowhard sitting behind a computer wants to give the false allusion that he is some big donor who may have had a hand in getting rid of the football coach. That is laughable. The big donors dont' get on here and if they do, they don't brag about how much money the give, while using a false name. Gmartin is a phoney!

Whether or not, I'll agree that there is something to be said for being discrete in matters of finance.

Oh, and its 47 posts. At that point you're allowed to have an opinion. :-D
