Mardi Gras Info

Post by Falcon Commander »

Hey Fans - I was in Mobile for a Mardi Gras Parade in Feb. ( they have about 20 of them !! - sometimes, 3 or 4 a DAY!) Different groups sponsor their particular parade. Most have a theme and VERY elaborate floats. And lots of floats, too. 8)

Not sure what this GMAC parade offer but, I'm sure it will be first class and fun. :D

Anyway, it was a great time; lots of beads, food (Moon Pies!), toys, etc. thrown from the floats. (they seem to favor children [Noah] and good looking females, imagine that).

The point I wish to make and was told NUMEROUS times is that: Mardi Gras was STARTED in MOBILE (in the 1700's!) and NOT New Orleans (they stole it).

They are righty proud of that fact and make it well know, they are the HOME OF MARDI GRAS.
So, FYI, you are now an informed FALCON . . . enough history . . . .

GO FALCONS !! :supz:

And all this time I thought it was the French who popularized Mardi Gras way back in the middle ages!

Mobile Mardi Gras

Post by MobileBama »

If you're looking for a "MTV" or "Girls Gone Wild" type atmosphere, you wont find it during a Mobile Mardi Gras. Even though our floats and throws are just as big as the ones in New Orleans, ours is more family oriented. I'm not saying you wont see some crazy stuff or be allowed to have a fun time, but it's just not as crowded/crazy as N.O. All BGSU fans who attend the parade, please keep it a secret. That's how we like it in Mobile.

Thanks for the heads up! Noah & I are looking forward to the parade on the day of our arrival. Hoping for lots of fun, since it looks like we'll have to bypass all the festivities at Boo Radleys :( :( :(

Should be a good time!
