How bad is the job at EMU...

Post by Sidejudge »

From footballscoop .com today:
Eastern Michigan: Sources tell us that several candidates have turned down the job at Eastern Michigan. We hear EMU officials may now talk with Wayne State head coach Paul Winters.

Ouch!

I think this is a case of a school thinking a little to much of its self .... EMU had a good coach I am not saying great, but they won some games and were in alot of games till the end I don't think you can ask for more at EMU....

By the way I dont know where Coach G is now but might be a great Asst. Coach choice

He could have coached the Eagles to a national championship and I still wouldn't want him around here after he burnt his old jersey after our game this year. GET BENT GENYK.

No doubt. He literally burned a bridge, IMO.

Eastern will always be a tough sell for coaches and players. It's literally in the shadow of the Big House and has been at or near the bottom of the MAC for a long, long time. You've got Two Big Tenleven programs nearby, two MAC schools in-state and two more just down the road.

That's one tough sell.

I think he does and I agree. Why would you do such a thing? He is still a BG grad and former player. He burned his BG jersey...I didn't like it one bit.

Hey, he brought one of the jerseys from his BG playing days to the game, then torched it in front of his players. Not. Cool.

As far as I'm concerned, he burned a bridge.

Correctamundo. Don't know about burning jerseys, although burning parts of Jersey has merit. My reference was a picky little editorial one.

Most of New Jersey certainly smells like it's burning.

It might be time for Eastern Michigan to determine whether all the money it pours into its football program is really worth it. If the Wayne State guy turns down this job then I'd consider turning the lights off on the program and turning Rynearson Stadium into an outdoor skating rink.

Evidently not that bad!!! Two of the guys who people on this board touted as potential replacements for GB are the lead candidates according to today's "Detroit News." Ron English, former DC for Michigan, sounds like the lead candidate and the Grand Valley Head Coach is the other.

It would probably be the best stadium in the Missouri Valley.

I wouldn't be surprised if English went there or at least that his name is mentioned, with Lloyd Carr allegedly helping conduct the search. If you can turn around EMU, you'll fly up the coaching ladder, I'd think.

I know you are kidding. Rynearson Stadium would be a mid- level Missouri Valley football stadium at best. The only thing that keeps it from the very bottom it the end zone facility and Southern Illinois University! EMU would be better off financially without football, out of the MAC, and into a conference where basketball is the prime sport. They would get more bang for their buck trying to get some atmosphere into that tomb of an arena up there.
