Good Lord, government in football?? If only our fore-fathers could see this.....[/b]
Jefferson would be all over it! Apparently you also missed Henry Clay's colonial treatise on fair competitive practices in duels and slave-fighting in the backwoods of Virginia! Big issues in the day.

One way to remedy the situation that nobody in the BCS would enjoy, would be simply to take money out of the equation. The the millions earned from advertisements and sponsorship of the championships could be tax deductable, written off as a donation to funding for all universities with teams. Make the game about bragging rights, not about multi-million dollar payments for coaches who are, quite frankly, paid for a job that hundreds of thousands of people would pay to do!

Well, you'll be wasting your time and your residency. Edolphus Towns is congressman from NY district 10, which is comprised of neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens in NYC. The Partisan Voter Index for NY-10 is D+41, meaning that in an even election year the democrat will win by an average of 41 points. It's the 3rd most liberal house district in the entire US.

I think more importantly they (presidents, ADs, etc,) put a cap on what they pay football coaches. Then maybe some of them would stay put.

I hate all politicians....Dems, Republicans, all of them are the scum of the earth... Deal with the struggling economy, lack of jobs, high taxes, all the nonsense going on with the county and leave the college sports alone!

The founding fathers would have picked Florida against the spread.

How many jobs can be created with $17million instead of $750,00?

I'm sure Congress has bigger matters on its plate right now. And, yet, it seems worth noting out that we might not have college football to watch at all had the government -- in the form of President Roosevelt -- not stuck its nose into things after a deadly 1905 football season.

We might not have a forward pass, either. That was among the rule changes that came about in that reform-minded off season.

1) Hang the congressman who brought this topic up, evidently he is failing his constituents and his obligations as an elected official.

2) Changing a violent game and interceding to stop needless deaths in a sporting event is one thing, interfering with how teams are selecte to play in bowl games, that are not even recognized by the NCAA.

Is the system fair? No. Could it be better. Absolutly. Is this the time or place for congress or the president. Hell no.

I have said it time and again, if the non-bcs conferences would just say no and not play the bcs schools, we wouldn't have these issues, because the BCS would become a bigger problem. No more 12-0, 11-1 teams... a bunch of 10-2, 9-3 teams trying to wage war and get into the title game. 10 teams with one or two losses would create havoc. On top of that the big schools would have to schedule one another... and oh what fun that would be when schools like OSU might actually have to go on the road for more than one OOC game every other year.

Before that would ever happen the BCS would wise up and change the rules and scoring system. We are eventually headed to 8 12 team conferences anyways, its only a matter of time, and after that, everyone who is not in the new bcs conferences will be shut out completely.

R4E,

My dad would applaud your comments if he read them. He wants all the non BCS conferences to form their own organization and do the playoff deal. He's tired, as are most of us, of the BCS and the way they screw the non BCS. He's all for telling the BCS schools to forget about scheduling the non BCS, too. I mean, I'd love to win the National Title and that ain't gonna happen with the BCS around. But, in a new division, it could happen.

You're right...it would force the BCS to play each other...or sked FCS teams. The problem is most of the non BCS schools need the money for their athletic budgets and playing at OSU or Penn State or OK pays BiG money.

The BCS simply sucks...
