TDC,

Can you shed some light on why Troy changed their name from Troy State to Troy? I'm curious about that. I agree with Hammb and the others... I see Troy as a program on the rise and I'm excited to play you the next couple years. I would love to make the trip down in 2010...especially since my last trip to AL was very unpleasant in Mobile.

Look forward to game. BTW, do you guys have a fan board like this we can check out? Thanks and good luck this coming season....

well i was against the name change initially, as it came around my junior year. we changed it to improve marketablility and to bring in more donor money. they SAID that with the word State in our name, donors assumed the state gave us a lot of cash, which they don't. but in reality, we changed it to we'd stick out more on ESPN.

and yes, our fan board is www.gotroytrojans.com

it's extremely active.

"I think MAC folks would fancy our conference as stronger, but without question the Sun Belt has made progress since its formation. A lot of folks in the MAC are wondering what has come of our own brand of football in recent years, so I doubt anybody will take any team coming out of the SB lightly. "

You know, Sun Belt fans feel we have surpassed the MAC. we ended the last two seasons ranked higher than the MAC so we feel like we've arrived. I know the MAC has a wonderful history chalked full of great moments and great people, the Belt is a young conference. I think the MAC did an incredibly smart thing in signing a deal with ESPN to air a game every thursday, so jealous of that. I think the Belt is in an area of the country that allows us to bring in better players. the speed of southern players is undeniable, and nowadays there is so much more talent to go around. the SEC can take what they want and there is still more than enough great players for every Belt school to get their share. of course, TROY gets first dibs, then the rest of the conference gets our scraps, but they find diamonds in the rough we miss from time to time.
TROY, we OWN the Sun Belt.

Not to mention Troy taking OSU into the 4th only trailing 14-10 last year in Columbus. Troy will be a challenge, no question.

By that note, OU was also beating OSU for most of the game they played down there. I recall spanking them last year :-D

Yeah we got all kinds of crap because of the way we played against Eastern and Miami and Ohio State was taken to the wire by a really bad OU team. They won, however, I guess that's all that matters...but still to play that way against the Bobcats was flat out embarrassing.

ya know, we began last season with a sophmore QB, not the man who finished the season. Jamie Hampton initially was our starter because of his ability to scramble, but Levi Brown took over after Hampton went down with a knee injury against FAU. Jamie was good, but Levi is great. Jamie had a terrible tendency to make youthful mistakes. He also keyed on star reciever Jerrel Jernigan far too much. I think that if Levi had been our starter from the beginning, we would have beaten OSU. Also, last season was Neal Brown's first season as our OC, so there was a bit of a learning curve going on there. We just caught Ohio State at a bad time. If we had played them later in the schedule, it would have been a "W" for us.

Oh well, coulda, shoulda, woulda. I'm excited about the game. I'm REALLY excited about yall coming to Troy the following year. I love showing off our campus to people who've never been. So, I hope all of you will make the trip and enjoy your stay in Dixie. We Trojans take our football very seriously, but we are always hospitable to our guests. I welcome any and all to come tailgate with me. I know this is a bit early to be talking about this game, but oh well.
