Grant,

Just wanted to make you aware that we have now posted Greg Christopher's radio interview with Dave Horger on WBGU 88.1 FM on www.bgsufalcons.com. It's 28 minutes long but I personally think it has a lot of great information in there for anyone interested in finding out more about the current state of the athletic department. It's well worth the listen to any of the loyal members of www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com.

Thanks!

Only for the "loyal" members?

Can someone tell me what he talks about? :-D

Morning newscast with Dave Horger debuts

BOWLING GREEN, O.—Popular local newsman Dave Horger made his debut Monday (June 4) on WBGU 88.1 FM where he now hosts a program from 6-9 a.m. weekdays.

The program, made possible through a partnership between WBGU-FM and the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce, will be a mix of local news, sports, weather, interviews and music.

WBGU 88.1 FM is a nonprofit educational broadcasting radio station licensed to Bowling Green State University and a training ground for students preparing for careers in broadcasting.

Horger is well known in Wood County, having formerly reported on local news and sports for a number of years for the Fostoria radio station WFOB.

The "Voice of the Falcons" for many years calling Football and Basketball games for WFOB before they were bought out. He bleeds brown and orange and is a helluva great guy.

It was a dark day for BG when WFOB was bought out. Actual coverage in BG, of all places, is now hit or miss unless you listen over the internet. Why it should be so difficult to listen to a BG game in BG baffles the mind. But that's another story.....

Suffice it to say that Dave Horger got undeservedly screwed when this whole deal went down.

I still think that Dave Horger should be hired to be the PA announcer at both football and basketball games at the University. We could can the robot voice, know no one's name guy and the monster truck rally, mattress commercial guy at basketball games. Dave is a class act and is a great falcon fan and announcer.

So that exempts him from criticism?

That part of it does.

The rest of his personality encourages it. :-D

Why yes, I just read a post of his this past SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY, for ONE POST ONLY!

With Dave calling games I could get a firm idea on how the team as really doing, just because you could get such a good read on him through the radio. I stopped listening to the games after he was gone, and these days, I couldn't get them on the radio if I tried again.

GC doesn't really give any idea as to how this will be dealt with. We know a "blue ribbon" committee is being formed on the University side of the Hockey issue, but it remains to be seen if the donors and community will support it. Likewise, I'm waiting to see if it will be used as a means to negate the group forming this week, which was a formidable gathering from what I saw.

Likewise, when asked what the community can do, he punted. Simply saying that the community is already doing what it can by attending games, and giving through Falcon Club doesn't indicate much thinking has gone into this.

That said, it remains a bit early. I know there are meetings out of which meaningful insight will come, and thus, no purpose is served in getting too wrapped up in things. To be fair minded, the basketball tourney and meetings are going to preoccupy a lot of things with him.

I'm curious who will lose their jobs in athletics though, since he did say the department will be smaller.

One of my very favorite people in the department already lost hers (or was told about it this week). Not good... it's going to make doing their jobs a lot harder for a lot of people.

It's horse shows, not monster truck rallies. :)

Also, because of the number of this post in my total count, I'm required to say the following:

I find it interesting how the comments and tone changed from it being a bad economy and the like when talking about hockey and why the renovations were stopped, then talking about the Stroh center and the increase in student fees to help pay for it and what a great addition (which I agree with btw) it will be. The students and their parents are going through the same economy as the University is. The economy and questions about the State budget are enough to stop the $8 million ice arena renovation ($4 mil for the Univ.) but apparently it's not bad enough to stop a $32 million project with about $20 million coming from the University (or should I say students).

I don't want us to drop ANY sports, if it can be helped. But, losing athletic department staff members sux just as much. There are some hard-working, good people who work behind the scenes in the athletic department, and things will not run as well if some of them lose their jobs.
