But if it were BG, as a fan, I'd rather have the notoriety of hosting that big name in our own stadium than get the large payoff from playing a game that for all intents and purposes is still an away game though the score sheet says otherwise. Especially when you know from the get-go that the amount of fans there for the "visiting" team would vastly outnumber whatever amount you could get for your team, throwing "home field advantage" out the window.
In this case, I'll take the financial draw.

The MAC school would be outdrawn anywhere they played and the lure of $3 million-plus in this day and age is WAYYYY too much to pass up in favor of "I'd rather play at our stadium" (If that were ever even a possiblity with an OSU/Michigan/etc. team.)
A) It is not a possibility. OSU/UM/etc would NEVER play at the Doyt.
B) The money is far more valuable than having the game at your home stadium. It's still going to be 20k OSU fans to 10k BG (at BEST), you may as well say screw it and have the game at a "neutral site" and benefit financially.

Even nicer to see BG gets an ESPN2 game. :-D

Actually, that at least half of UB's TV games are on ESPN2 is nice. If the MAC is going to continue to whore itself out for ESPN games, having them all on ESPNU/Classic/360 is unacceptable.

I know, I know. The money's good. It really is. I guess my viewpoint is that some things are worth more than money. The PR of having a name like that come into our stadium is worth a lot too. And I know it's a pipe dream, but I like the dream anyway.

UGHHH! That's one MAC game I won't be getting to this year. I enjoy going up to Buffalo every other year...

At least it will be on ESPN2...

I'll have to see you at Kent St., Freak.

I'm also seeing if my friends want to go to the Boise State game, but the Buffalo game really pisses me off.

I think BG football has had plenty of notoriety the last year or so. You could probably use something that would build a positive reputation instead of a notorious one. I would think hosting a big name team would do that instead of bringing ill fame on your school. ;-)

Any reason why BG decided to schedule a Thursday night game for its home opener. A game that isn't on tv?

A Thursday night season and home opener is AWESOME! My first BGSU football game was a Thursday night home and season opener in 1995. I marched that year and camp was hell because we were rushed to get everything on the field but we made it. Having a game that early in the season during the week helps get the freshmen hooked on BG football early. You do't want them going home and missing the game. I would love to see us play our first game on a Thursday night every year. It could be our "thing." :D
