Gameday Experience Observations
First of all congrats to Coach Clawson and the Falcons on a very impressive win last night at the Doyt. It was wonderful to see a coach make in-game coaching moves that help win the game!! I was sitting with a few friends last night and we began to talk about improvements that would help make the gameday experience just that much better.
1. First of all the improvements made since Urban came in as coach are great. Stadium lights, turf, Doyt, etc.
2. One of the first things I was going to mention was the PA announcer and that was nice to hear the robot is out of the booth this year. Great job having a new guy in the booth last night, the volume of the speakers needs to be adjusted because the great football band in attendance last night(Troy) drowned out the PA system.
3. Gameday workers. We need more involved with tickets. We should have more people selling and taking tickets at the stadium. I had friends stop out at 4pm to buy tickets when the ticket office would be ready and they told them we will be ready in 30 minutes. Don't advertise 4pm unless you will be ready at 4pm, professionalism needed here. When you have one person in each booth on the east side of the stadium selling tickets and handling will call, that is not enough. There should be $10 walk up cheap tickets to every game at the Doyt this season, except for Boise and Toledo. Have several people set up outside the ticket booths with these tickets so that you can get more people in the game quicker. And to answer the question about where we get these people, sports management majors, use them please!! They need the experience, and our sports program could need them.
4. On to the gameday experience. We need to start a tradition in Bowling Green that is our own. What is Bowling Green known for? Sweet Caroline, that is horrible and needs to go away. My friends and I developed a plan last night that would work and could become known as a quirky Bowling Green tradition.
On first downs, BG fans in unison yell "full pull". Before you think I am crazy, think about it, BG is not a big city, we are a school in middle of corn fields and host a tractor pull event that is really unique and an awesome party!! Well bring that atmosphere into the Doyt!!
BG could market this with full pull orange trucker hats, t-shirts, etc. Along with the full pull chants on first down, there should be a tractor in the end zone that can be revved up on third downs and could possibly have smoke shoot out of it on scores and big third downs. A customized BG tractor in the end zone would be awesome. Imagine this tractor with hydraulics in the front bouncing up and down, revving, and shooting out some smoke. It would catch on and become a huge hit!! I know people will say lets stick with the generic hells bells, the falcon screetch, and sweet caroline, but a change and developing a unique BG gameday tradition would be awesome. Anyway we could get fans involved more in the game would be outstanding. We are BG people, a great school, a party school, and a town with a great football team and a tractor pull, lets embrace it!!
Imagine the entire stadium yelling full pull on a first down!! Priceless.
BG Athletic Department, I have many marketing ideas and am willing to volunteer my time to help out. Go Falcons!!!

I for one hope the university never markets trucker hats, overalls, and tractors. I don't think students or alumni either one want to be dressed as hicks.
Re: Gameday Experience Observations
That's a great Idea. We need something different than the falcon screech. I don't know about the pimped out tractor, but the "full pull" idea....that's classic. No other university has it. Pass out a bright orange "full pull" trucker hat at the gates when people come in to the stadium. That would get the ESPN announcers talking during our games. BGSU IS in the middle of farm country, might as well enjoy it. Maybe a cartoon on the big screen of a tractor pulling the team to a first down, knocking over the other team like they were bowling pins. Something like that maybe, but no pimped out tractor.

Yeah, I'm not ready to jump on the trucker hat and tractor tradition bandwagon either. I would probably have more disdain for that than I do for Sweet Caroline. At least that, I still felt compelled to conduct my friends with thunderstix as my pregame buzz was finally wearing off. Tons o fun!Falcon137 wrote:I for one hope the university never markets trucker hats, overalls, and tractors. I don't think students or alumni either one want to be dressed as hicks.
Finally a senior!

I don't have any problem with the pulls being in BG, but I don't really want to associate that with the university. We'd basically become known as the redneck university if we started making tractors, etc. a major part of our image.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I too, would not be in favor of BGSU becoming known as the Redneck Capital of the NCAA. We already have that stereotype of being a bunch of hillbillies in the middle of no-where. We don't then need to embody the caricature.

The scoreboard idea is classic. I like it better than the actual tractor. Apparently, some think we are J Crew U or something. I think the whole crowd starting a tradition of full pull would be classic!!takeoffeh wrote:That's a great Idea. We need something different than the falcon screech. It's unfortunate that some people would rather stick thier nose up in the air to an idea that might bring in a lot more locals into the fold. We should definately be making the most of the locality in which BGSU resides.BGfootballfan wrote:The scoreboard idea is classic. I like it better than the actual tractor. Calling farmers "hicks"? Not a very intelligent or educated comment.

1. Trucker hats rule.
2. The crowd yelling "full pull" won't make us become Redneck University. The other teams fans wouldn't have any idea what we were yelling, or what it meant anyway. If something brings excitement and getting fans involved...I'm all for it.

Plus, have any of you actually been to the Pulls? It's anything but "hick". There is some serious money invested in some very serious, high horsepower machinery. Bowling Green is known for the National Tractor Pulls throughout the country. Relegating it to "hick" status shows nothing but ignorance..period. It's nothing to be ashamed of. I love the "Full Pull" idea!! Very cool

I am glad some people on here can see this would be fun. We were yelling full pull last night on every first down and it was fun!! I am glad not everyone on here takes themselves to seriously, and is willing to give something that would be fun for fans a shot. Now, if we could (1)Keep Troy's band, (2)Get rid of sweet caroline, and (3) find a replacement for the most generic 3rd down song on the planet, we would be all set.
GO Falcons!!
Keep up the good ideas!!

Re: Gameday Experience Observations
Sorry, but I'm going to have to join the chorus of anti-trucker hats, etc. people.
The "Full Pull" idea might be alright, but I definitely would not support the rest of that. Sorry. Consider me stuck up if you want, but it just wouldn't happen.
