The powerhouse football program of William & Mary shut down Virginia's new spread offense, under the direction of Gregg Brandon, today 26-14. I'm sure Brandon blamed it on poor fan turnout for the game.

Saw that score on the bottom line. Hilarious.

A friend of mine is actually interning this semester in Charlottesville. Guess the joke's on him.

I've been following DC's career since he took the head coaching job at Fordham, so I was glad to see that he got the BGSU job after a down year at UT. And, very happy to see that his first game was a "W' Thursday night. At the same time, I'm a UVa alum, so I was also hoping Brandon would breath some life into the offense there after a miserable '08 season. Oh well, one out of two for the weekend isn't that bad I guess...

Around the college football world, Beckman's defense gives up 52 points and Richmond (packed with Clawson recruits) beats an ACC team to open up the season coming off their national championship. A good day indeed.

UVA ran 30 quarterback draws and turned the ball over 7 times. All 3 QB's played as well, which was probably a nightmare. W&M would have scored more, missed a couple FG's and a few wide open receivers. Brandon has already defended the offense after this one, claiming that they "have enough speed to run the offense, we just didn't execute". Al Groh has been rumored on the hot seat this year and this opener doesn't bode well for him, or Brandon's new offense. I guess that sucks pretty hard for the Cavalier fans.

Sounds like the man just does not learn from past mistakes.

That's one thing I can say about Clawson though, he seemed to have learned a lot from the mistakes that were made at Tennessee last year. One of the main things I noticed was his mixture of the system he really wants to run and the system that the players already knew, thus creating a hybrid that maximizes the talents of the players he's got rather than trying to change them to fit the system.

Brandon will land on his feet and reacquire his status as a very good O Coordinator.

I wish him well.

I bet he is wishing he had his Bowling Green players he recruited on his team right about now. On a side note...Tennessee scored more points yesterday than they did all of last year...interesting.

Anybody besides me find Brandon's current predicament similar to Clawson's last year at Tennessee? He's the OC for a BCS program with a head coach that is clearly on the way out barring some huge turnaround season and is installing an offense totally dissimilar to what they had been running. I really like Gregg Brandon, he's a great guy and is very well respected in the coaching world, but if I were him, I'd be worrying about a job next season. When head coaches get replaced, coordinators basically always have to be looking for new jobs. I believe it will take a huge turnaround this season for Groh to be at UVA next year, and starting the season off with a loss to W&M is not a good start.

I was thinking the same thing MarkL.

I think we would all agree that our offensive personell is a heck of a lot better than Virginia's offensive personell. That is a shame being an ACC team and all.

Why would we all agree to that? UVA consistently recruits more highly rated talent than we do.....but let me get this straight, when the Vols struggled offensively last year it was because of the coach. When UVA struggles offensively it's because they lack talent...even thought the circumstances are eerily similar....

You continue to amaze me...

Isn't it great that we posted a convincing win over a solid team this week, yet we still feel the need to rag on the past?

Virginia is a program that's been going downhill for the past five years and they are struggling to get any of the elite in-state guys to come to them so the talent on the team is aweful right now. I don't know how Al Groh still has a job, but I'm guessing he won't by the end of the year.
