I'm a huge Omar fan.

I think he's been awesome - better than anyone could have possibly imagined. I think he's only going to get better. I think there's a chance that at some point in the next two years, he could be the best player in college football.

But if Randy Moss and Ben Roethlisberger didn't even get a sniff of the Heisman, Omar ain't gonna win it.

I'm not saying he won't deserve it. I'm just saying I can't imagine he'd win it.

Next year we are looking at Bush and Peterson back, and Leinhart and Rodgers still havn't declared. There will be some competition.

Moss did get a sniff. I think he was invited to New York. I seem to remember another Marshall player -- either Pennington or Leftwich -- was as well.

Omar has already broken the MAC season TD record as a sophomore. He may have an even better shot.

It doesn't help that he plays in Bowling Green, which is way off the big media radar.

Maybe we need to buy a billboard on Times Square -- or some up with something equally ridiculously creative.

And not to drag another thread into this one, but was there some story about Steve Sanders going pro? He's turned into a damn fine receiver for us, but I don't know that he'd necessarily get drafted after NEXT year, much less this one. (Though if Omar puts up numbers like this year, without Cole, Corn and Hawkins to share with, maybe he'll prove me wrong...

I think Sanders has a better shot in the pros than Sharon because of his height. Sharon is an incredible athlete but Sanders has the WR body.

I think some of the flat-out athletic moves Sharon has made to pull in some passes (Purdue, UT last year, and on and on...) makes that two inch difference in height a little easier to overlook. Overall size might be a bit of a factor, Sharon is about 30 lbs lighter, but I think its pretty even otherwise.

The main point I was making is there was talk in some post-bowl thread about Sanders going pro this year, I have no idea where thoughts like that would come from.

Sanders does have a chance to go pro, but not until he has another solid year under his belt. This was his breakout year so he had to show next year that it was no fluke. Sharon is the one we have to worry about possibly going pro because this is his second year of solid production, though I think his stock will be much better after next year.

That thread started because of Bob Davies comments during the game. He said something about there being talk of Sanders going pro next year. Of course, Davies had no clue what he was talking about, as usual. Thank him for inventing the idea in the first place.

I could see Sanders having a true breakout year next year and then getting some NFL attention, but not this year. I don't think too many people are arguing that idea.

Chuck has good hops to make up for his height though. I could see him returning kickoffs and punts in the NFL instead of catching passes though.
