A well played game -

Post by Tigers2B1 »

Bowling Green has a very good team all around. I, personally, saw no bad sportsmanship, no cheap shots, no pointing and talking - just the opposite. I watched a very well played football game with players who are looking to something bigger than a football field. It's a loss for the Tigers - but it doesn't feel so bad when you lose to a class team -- Congrads -
Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?

Thanks. The Tiger fans who came here during the weeks leading up to the game were tons of fun, and real fans. We enjoyed it. Good luck next season.

Thank you for the kind sentiment. I was very proud of the way that football was played by both teams. Best wishes to your program next season. This was an amazing game, and perhaps one of BG's most impressive games. If this is any measure of how far we have come along as a team this season, it indicates a lot for the future. PJ i think should have split player of the game honors with Omar because he took the load off of O4's back when it was essential throughout the game. Coach Stud gets much credit for this, as well as our defense for only allowing 7 pts late in the 2nd half. O4 for heisman next yr is all i've gotta say about next season. Thanks UM for such an outstanding bowl game. You guys are the classiest program we have played this yr and your future is bright. I hope williams comes back for you guys, in my heart i think he will after this tough break he had. GO BG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About midway through the third qtr I told my wife how nice it was to watch a game where the players weren't running around like idiots taunting each other and engaging in the usual trash talk.

I know the final score isn't what you Memphis fans wanted to see, but you guys mudst be proud to have thatcollection of quality athletes and young men representing your University.

The Memphis fans that have visited us here have, to a man, been a positve reflection on the Mephis Tiger community as a whole. You guys are first rate, no doubt about it...

Memphis is definately the type of program BG needs to look towards when it comes to future scheduling, in all sports. I think a basketball road trip to the FedEx Forum would be a great game. Playing in a large NBA style arena with a large crowd that Memphis brings (20,000+ in the Pyramid) would be valuable experience when it comes time for the MAC tourney.

Memphis is probably a step ahead of us when it comes to the financial and alumni support but having them on our schedule and a visit or two would not only be great competition for us but also could open up some new recruiting opportunities in the mid-south(an area we really haven't tapped into)

Some thoughts on Memphis:

Memphis totally outrepresented us down there. It helped, a lot, that they were much closer. It was a realistic drive for them, as opposed to a long journey for us. But the fact is, they have a tremendous fan base. We can see now that Memphis football has been a sleeping giant all these years.

That's a bit frustrating to me as we are very, very similar schools. I rode up in an elevator with a guy who used to be a budget director for Memphis; he said for years, they included Bowling Green as a peer university when trying to benchmark themselves. (And maybe they still do; I don't know).

Also, after a few days in Mobile and chattering with Memphis fans, I am beginning to appreciate even better their geographical situation.

First, they have a very nice home-and-home arrangement with Mississippi. The Tigers and the Rebels meet every year -- something like Miami and and Cincinnati do -- and it's a very sensible arrangement for both schools. Right there, that makes getting on Memphis' schedule tougher.

Stir in the fact that they have plenty of other nonconference schools fairly close by, and you see what a challenge it would be for them to create room for a home-and-home with us or any other MAC team. I assume they would play Tennessee and Vandy whenever they get a chance. Arkansas State is just down the road. Louisville is headed for Conference USA, and that's probably a better matchup for Memphis if they can get it.

I don't see us playing Memphis any time soon. But it would be very cool.

Great point. Classy effort by both squads and most fans on both sides. It's the way a bowl should be!

Tigers -- Thanks for the classy post and the thoughts. It was definitely a well-played game for both teams. Thankfully for us, we scored more points. I certainly hope DeAngelo makes a speedy and complete recovery. I also hope he decides to return to Memphis for his senior year. Your fans were very nice. It was a great time for everyone. You guys did a great job supporting your team ... your side was just about full. Take care and best wishes for continued success on the gridiron!
