Re: Mack Brown
It is about the safest pass play you can call, but it was unlikely to yield much. I don't think it was quite as bad as everyone else does, but it was clearly a huge play in the game.

I think you are 1000% wrong .. You want Texas to take a knee before the half of the national championship game in which they are losing.. ?? Of course after a shovel pass is deflected and taken back for a td its easy for you to say that .. If he or any other coach would have taken a knee in that situation , he would be quitting// Its veryeasy after something ges wrong to make that claim , but no way should he have taken a knee

Yes genius, you take a knee because…
-there is only 15 seconds left in the half
-you’re at least 40 yards from FG range
-you’re playing with a freshman quarterback who has thrown 8 passes in his career
-you’re freshman quarterback has looked very shaky so far (what, now he’s suddenly going to find himself and complete a 40-yard pass and you then call timeout and kick a 40-yard + field goal?)
-you’re should feel lucky to get to half time only down 11 points
-you just ran a draw on 1st down and called a timeout (not like you are managing the clock to score points)
-You just want to get to half time so you can either coach-up your new QB or find that McCoy can return
-having a freshman, inexperienced QB throw a shuttle pass into a crowded line of scrimmage isn’t all that safe. (Argue all you want, the results proved just how safe it really was)
That decision might have cost Texas a National Championship and probably was one of the biggest bonehead calls ever by a head coach in a big game. Every sportswriter in the country has chimed in and agreed.
