Three Star LB down to BG and Toledo

Post by Rollo83 »

This from the Scout.com Web site...

Jayrone Elliott Down To Two

Cleveland (OH) Glenville senior defensive end Jayrone Elliott had an extremely impressive season in 2009, helping lead his team to the state title game. Elliott has narrowed his choices to two schools, and is planning an announcement this coming Friday. Bill Greene has the latest in this three-star recruit.

Cleveland Glenville senior defensive end Jayrone Elliott had a fantastic senior season, culminating in the Tarblooders losing to Hilliard Davidson in the state championship game.

Elliott a three-star recruit, has narrowed his college choices down to two schools, and will be announcing his decision shortly.

"I'm now down to two schools, Toledo and Bowling Green," Elliott announced Tuesday afternoon. "I really feel basically the same about both schools, and they're only 15 miles apart. Bowling Green is coming off a close bowl loss, and I loved the campus and the facilities. They seem like a program that will only get better, and I felt really comfortable being around the players and the coaches."

"The Toledo head coach, Tim Beckman, told me a lot about his coaching experience," he said. "He's been at a lot of great schools, and I can tell he's a great coach. I have a lot of friends playing there, and they have a large recruiting class coming in next year. I think I could be a part of something big if I would go there."

Elliott, 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, admits he has a tough choice facing him, and he's having a hard time differentiating between the two schools.

"I don't know how to pick out these schools from the other," he stated. "I will talk to (head coach) Ted Ginn, and see where he thinks the best place for me is. I was even thinking about flipping a coin, because I know I can be happy at either place, but I won't do that. I'm just going to be in serious thought about this over the next few days, and I will be ready to go by the end of the week. I will make my decision later on in the day this Friday."

FC,
Not sure why the political comment needed to be made here, but I think the more interesting part of the kid's comments evolved around feeling "comfortable on BG's campus, with the players and coaches" ...and then having Beckman tell him about his wonderful coaching experiences.... hopefully, Tim included his stay at BG among all the" great schools" he's worked for.

Yeah...I don't much care for the Obaminator, but I reserve those commens for the free for all.... :-)

Anywhoo...was struck by the same contrast 61 was. I wonder how much of Beckmann's pitch centers on himself vs UT in general...

Well, you know that Beckman has to drop Meyer and Tressel in every sentence.

Hope he picks BG! Let's hope he makes the "correct" choice and does so.

While Elliott may or not become a Falcon, I am hearing some rumbles about a couple of 3 star recruits coming in for the Falcons in the final decision making process. No matter which way this player goes, I think we will finish very strong. Perhaps there will be some public confirmation in papers etc as sometimes occurs in the player's towns.

Go Falcons!

I wonder if he included his movie "Bend it like Beckman" in the conversation. I know that's a pretty impressive accomplishment.

I really feel that losing this kid will only suck because we'd be losing him to Turdledo. If he does go to Toledo, there will be someone for us to replace him with, I'm sure. That being said, I REALLY hope that he choose to be a Falcon!

Beckman's talking up his coaching "experience?" What would he say?

'I used to be the defensive coordinator at Bowling Green before Urban Meyer even got there and went 2-9. In my last game against Memphis, my defense gave up 28 points in the first two quarters before their star running back hurt his knee. I then went on to be a position coach at Ohio State under Jim Tressel. The fact that my dad played for his dad in college had nothing to do with that at all. Oklahoma State gave me a chance to be the defensive coordinator where my units finished 101st and 93rd in the country in total defense. I’m now at Toledo where we went 5-7 and finished 12th out of 13 conference teams in scoring defense. Be a part of something special!'

And the year after I left Oklahoma State, their total defense jumped up to top 30 in the country.
