Other schools like Boston College and Cal have survived pretty bad point shaving allegations. Toledo will be fine. Worry more about your own school RWT.Redwingtom wrote:Maybe so internally, but the Sword of Damocles still hangs over your program and will for several more years.rocketfootball wrote:Point shaving.....that's so old and taken care of.
Toledo has not been to the NCAA tournament since 1980 and the school is still trying to recover from a point-shaving scandal that sullied the school's reputation. Three former basketball players and three former football players were indicted last May, and the indictment listed 17 basketball games that two Detroit-area businessmen allegedly bet on illegally.

BG has beat Toledo in football the last three years. Won three of its last four in basketball. Beckman had 27 players sign because he knows many won't make it to fall. The basketball team is 10-45 since Eugene arrived on campus. Things are good over here. I can't say the same for you guys.rocketfootball wrote:Toledo will be fine. I know its a football forum and all but since you included hoops I'll just say things are VERY good in Rocketland if we expand the sports picture a little further out! Very good indeed. I notice you stopped after hoops and football- good idea.

Sorry, no. Tennis, track, cross country, soccer, volleyball and golf are not a part of the sports picture.h2oville rocket wrote:Tricky_Falcon wrote:BG has beat Toledo in football the last three years. I love BG as much as anyone, but I can care less about non-revenue sports. Pretty soon the Toledo is going to claim that they have the nation's best hackey sack team.

Yikes! When did that happen? HAs anyone told the PGA, Olympic committee? NCAA? Holy Cow! But I might say the same if I was a BG fan.

Don't have one- track is 13th in the region, Swimming Top fifty in the country but no hackey-sack. We're pulling for Ride and Tie next year though, and Yes, Tom, it IS a sport and a good one. And I can care less about non-revs, too, DP. Waaaaayyyy less!

Used to have rugby- I played! Chess team didn't want me though- I hurt a teammate with a pre-game chest bump-broke her glasses and split her pocket protector causing her sliderule to fall out and break as well.Falconfreak90 wrote: How about Rugby? Does ut have a rugby club sport?

Re: Three Star LB down to BG and Toledo...Going to the Dark Side
Three star DE/LB Jayrone Elliott of Cleveland Glenville High School recently narrowed his list to Toledo and Bowling Green. After a tough decision, Elliott finally called the coaches of the program he's decided to spend the next four years at.
At about 4:15pm today, Elliott called Coach Beckman to commit to the Toledo Rockets.
Elliott is rated the #56 outside linebacker prospect in the country by scout.com. The 6-3, 210 pound prospect had offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Syracuse, Toledo, and UCONN.
Here's what I don't get from you guys. This guy (I've never heard of him) decides to narrow his choices of schools down to Toledo or Bowling Green. If he chooses Bowling Green, he'd be the next coming of Christ and a 'genius' from Glenville with great potential. However, he chose Toledo and now becomes a thug, a hoodlum and a guy who can't pass the entrance exam. How does this work?
This post says that he was "offered" by Cincinnati. I'll grant you that I don't pay as much attention to this stuff as my brother does. However, I've never once seen this guy's name on any one of the UC boards. His name also does not appear on any Big East board.

Maybe the people running the UC boards are clueless inbred mouth breathers lacking in the specific knowledge of UC football recruits necessary to do a thorough job?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Three Star LB down to BG and Toledo...Going to the Dark Side
Yeah, you're probably right, Flipper. Those UC board guys probably pay no attention to recruiting. Did you check those end of season rankings and records?Flipper wrote:Maybe the people running the UC boards are clueless inbred mouth breathers lacking in the specific knowledge of UC football recruits necessary to do a thorough job?
I know how you people operate. BTW, how do you get from Bowling Green to Boise, Idaho.......through Toledo, through Cincinnati or through Cleveland? I don't know, I'm just asking.
The Sugar Bowl was great.......except for the losing the game part. It was still fun......although I'd never again spend the time and money on Bourbon Street on New Year's Eve.
Re: Three Star LB down to BG and Toledo...Going to the Dark Side
One other thing I forgot to mention, Flipper. According to this post, this kid from Glenville was "offered" scholarships from three Big Ten schools and three Big East schools as well as three schools from the MAC. He chooses Toledo. The kid has a chance (even though I've never heard of him.....but I may be an in-bred, mouth-breather from Cincinnati......I hope my BGSU brothers don't read this because they came from the same gene pool) to play in BCS bowl games but he picks Toledo where he can play in Boise, Idaho or Birmingham, Alabama if he's lucky.Flipper wrote:Maybe the people running the UC boards are clueless inbred mouth breathers lacking in the specific knowledge of UC football recruits necessary to do a thorough job?
Clearly, the young man has a school entrance exam problem. God bless the Falcons. I wish them well.
