Krebs interviewed on 1460 the Fan this afternoon...
MAC teams at home against "big" schools
With regard to Big Ten schools playing on the road against MAC teams, the Wisconsin at BG game, playing in Cleveland, is a good way to go.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

These are dangerous ideas.
A shake up of the MAC could leave us on the outside looking in. We aren't the most attractive candidate for another league, or the second most. We do a lot with a little. We do great things on the field. And I think we'll keep growing.
But ... this is dangerous talk.
The MAC is the perfect situation for us.
Would I mind shedding a member or two? No. I'd like that.
But an exodus of teams leaving the MAC for greener pastures is not good for us because we might not be in the exodus...
That could set us back 40 years, perhaps permanently, because we would have a very difficult time staying I-A without this league keeping travel costs down for us.
We have a lot of room to grow before we have any reason to start getting this uppity.

Many of us remember some very dark days when the MAC was quite the comfort. 8)Schadenfreude wrote:But ... this is dangerous talk.

It wouldn't shock me if Krebs winds up going back to Columbus. The amount of change in BGSU athletics over the last five to eight years has been imense. The nature of the change has done more to secure BGSU athletics for the long-term than new facilities or coaches. Of course, part of that change has also been the new coaches, keeping certain old ones, and physical upgrades. I think the issue of buildings and such was bound to be the last aspect to show visable change. And we are seeing that now.
I would hate to see him go. But I would also know we have a friend in Columbus that respects BGSU. That can have advantages. It might even elevate my view of OSU athletics in general. I think with the BG@100 activities coming, Ribeau still at BGSU, we would be able to either boost an existing member of the atheltics administration/related department or find a top-notch mover and shaker to take over. Change can be an opportunity to create buzz and such. If it comes, then that is how I'd like to look at it.

i think all this football talk is crazy. The problem is not the mac the problem is the bcs and the amount of teams that are outside looking in every year. I don't think there is much wrong with the mac i think we are in good shape right here where we are.

I think there needs to be a realization that competing in Div I-A for football is much different then any other college sport. If BG is committed to competeing at this level, then we have to show the rest of the nation that we are. How do we do that? Leave the MAC for a bigger conference (not my choice), or lead the charge to form a football-only Mid-major conference that brings together the better programs and leaves the Buffalos, Kents, Ball States behind to figure out what they they to do to step up. I know the MAC formed this "competitiveness committee", but I think the biggest kick-in-the-pants move would be to relegate those schools to some lower conference (the left behind MAC, that is) until they improve.

I'm preparing my CV now. Your posts continue to shine with reality. We are what we are...and life is getting better for BG every year. But we still have much room for improvement and growth.
