Could we be losing some players after this year???

Post by BGSU33 »

Here was Clawson's response to a question

On the key to making a quick turn-around: "It's always recruiting. Recruiting is the lifeblood of your program. As our 40 freshmen and red-shirt freshmen mature and grow into their roles, you'll see flashes of their potential. I tell the freshmen, 'There's no guarantee that you will turn into great players if you don't work. And another key is keeping the guys [you recruit] here. It's important that, when they are here, they stay here and develop here."

I found the end of that response interesting. Maybe I am reading more into it, but I was a little concerned it may have carried some weight. Any thoughts?

I think you're reading too much into it. If anything I'd guess it might be a comment with regards to past classes that had so many washouts. Those past classes not making it 3-4 years into the program are what have taxed this team of the upper class talent that it should have.

Good point, and I hope that I am. I guess with the way the season has gone, when I first read it I thought it might have been implying that we could be in store for some bailing out on us, which would be terrible. Obviously the season has been a rough one, but the silver lining in it has been all the experience the really young players are getting. Thus, is they all stick around, it could pay big dividends down the road.

You will also get some kids who decide its time to stop playing. They either feel its time to commit themselves completely to their studies, or that decide that fun is more important than football. I wouldn't read too much more into the quote.
Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, teach PE.
