QB 2011

Post by Globetrotter »

Just thinking ahead as I add the 7 recruits we know about to the roster I have. Next year we will have 6 guys at QB. Only Pankrantz will be an upperclassmen. Schilz would have to be well in the lead to keep control of his spot, however, with so many developing and new faces if someone should show well in the spring or camp then I would also not be too surprised to hear that he was beat out.

What we currently have:
Matt Schilz 6-2 212 Fr®
*Has had ups and downs. The clear best of the bunch who has played this year
Trent Hurley 6-4 220 Fr
*Has not played to preserve redshirt but ascended to number 2 on the 2 deep. Probably the first guy that comes to mind when you think of somebody unseating Schilz.
Kellen Pagel 6-3 209 Fr®
*Played sparingly. Don't think he has much chance. Former walk-on (I think, may currently be a walk-on)
Aaron Pankratz 6-6 226 So®
*Didn't show well in his time. Could see him transferring for a place that he can play
Caleb Watkins 6-3 207 Fr
*Probably moving positions from what has been discussed.
Matt Johnson 6-1 185 R
*A pretty high recruit at QB who is probably #2 on the list of guys who might usurp Schilz.

Just a side note......a little name from the past.

Andrew Beam was 18-36 last week for University of Findlay with two interceptions. Findlay is 1-9. (corrected below!)

I wouldn't be suprised to see Mike Ward as the next head coach there.

BG is my undergrad school and I'm currently at UF for graduate school...my schools are a combined 3-17 this year in football. Truly depressing statistic.

I've been away for a year or so.

What happened to Bart Tanski? I know he was a walk-on with a limited chance of actually player a significant role, but is he even with the team still?

EDIT: I got off my lazy butt and looked it up. Moved to WR. Was there that little of a chance of him being a QB at this level?

He has been moved to WR...I thought he WAS the holder on PK's...but Alex Bayer, a TE, has that job now...not sure why, but he(Bayer) did a solid job as the holder on Wed. nite.
Funny this question should come up about Tanski....one of my good friends came to the game with me and wondered why Tanski wasn't BG's QB...his quote was basically, " the kid's a WINNER". and that Bart was THE best QB he'd ever seen in HS... insisted he was better than what he was seeing on the field. Admittedly, Schilz didn't have a great game, though our OL problems don't help any QB, when he's under constant pressure.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

Under the Brandon offense, Tanski would have been just about a perfect fit. Kind of like a shorter Josh Harris. But, it seems like under the Clawfense, Schilz, Hurley, and Watkins are all a step above.

Andrew Beam was a senior last year so it wasn't him quarterbacking for the Oilers. They have a freshman Tate who has been splitting time with Soli. Beam actually led the team to several wins last season but that was his only year of eligibility.
