Those of you at the Scrimmage...
Ok...The Big Game is almost upon us...Those of you that were at the Sunday scrimmage, what did you see, what did you like, and most importantly what needs to be tightened up if we are to have a serious shot at pulling the tremendous upset in Norman? Do you guys think that Omar will be able to settle down enough to get the job down in the pandemonium in Norman? Will the frontline be able to give him enough time to be effective? How about the running game? Did Pope look up to the task? I'd love to believe we have a shot, but this truly would be an upset of epic proportions...
Well, we didn't run the ball hardly at all. None of the units did. I think that is because the passing game needs to work on timing and you can't really get that in practice drills. You need some "live" drills like this. So can't say much about Pope, or Jacobs running ability either. On Jacobs, I think he needs to gain some confidence. He made some good throws, and some bad ones. But without having a balanced running attack on sunday, it was easier for the defense to just play the pass as well, so take that for what it is worth.
Also, it seemed to me that Jacobs has a different throwing style. He doesn't have a big wind up. He sort of short arms the ball it seemed, more like throwing a dart than like throwing a baseball if that helps. That allows him to get rid of the ball quickly, but I am not sure if he can get the ball down field throwing like that. We will see.
The front seven on defense looked pretty solid. But again, there were few running plays, so it is hard to tell how good they are. I have my concerns about the def backs. If the QB had time to throw, there seemed to be a guy open (although several of those were dropped by the WR). So I think that is my biggest concern going up against the Heisman trophy winning QB and OU's talented WRs.
