I know how everybody loves this aspect of gameday. The girl with the mic, shouting as loud as can be, trying to get everybody energized and excited about the game. Well, it appears they are looking for the new person for the 2011 football season. Although it says open auditions are for the campus community, if somebody on here would like to audition for the part, they probably wouldn't say no. Then again, if you would rather not see this position filled (like most people feel on here), there is a contact email at the end of the announcement.
Below is the announcement from the Campus Update email sent out daily to the campus community.
BGSU Athletics - Sideline Personality needed
Are you energetic? Do you like speaking in front of large crowds and being the center of attention? Do you love BGSU Athletics? Well, if this sounds like you than BGSU Athletics has an opportunity for you!
BGSU Athletic Marketing is looking for a Sideline Personality for the 2011 football season! The Sideline Personality will be responsible for increasing fan involvement and excitement while announcing in-game promotions, roaming the stands with fans, and leading chants.
Candidates for this opportunity must be able to make all six 2011 home football games and be present for the entirety of each game.
There will be two open auditions to the campus community on Wednesday, April 13, at Doyt Perry Stadium. The first audition window will be from noon to 2 p.m. The second will be from 5-7 p.m.
Interested parties should RSVP to Chris Marcum, Director of Marketing and Promotions, by 5 p.m. Monday, April 11. For more information, please contact Chris at [email protected], or call 2-7093.
South Carolina does something similar to this for all of their home games. I was in their student section for a game once and it was actually pretty cool how he was able to pump up everyone...BUT South Carolina gets 15,000 students to their games and have 80,000 overall in their stadium. That's a completely different animal. It wouldn't look good on our sidelines IMO

Attended more games than any responsible student should have.
Anyone else at the game at Akron in 2008? They had a sideline personality. Not sure if that was just because it was Homecoming for the Zips that day or if it's an every day thing ...

Only if we get to throw things at him.
Seriously though, whomever gets the gig, needs to be taught how to handle the mic. How they keep allowing people to scream into mics blasting their voice even louder, boggles my mind. That nobody has the brains to tell these people during the course of five or more home events also boggles my mind. It is as bad as it used to be at the SRC, when the girls leading aerobics would progressively scream louder into their mics during the workouts.

Not sure where you are coming from on this. We should examine program upgrades like this. STO has gone this route and it works (cant recall the hot blond's name they have been using but it is a positive add to the viewing experience). This could also be a great internship for students to consider, especially majors like Communications, Marketing, or Sports Admin. I hope they move forward here and keep it going. Over time, it could become a nice asset for our sporting events (especially when we get the Falcon Network running in the future).

This isn't a television position. This is the person that stands on the sidelines with a mic, announces the silly "minor league baseball" contests, attempts to start cheers that they don't understand, and screams at the top of their lungs. I realize you are new to the boards, but one of the biggest complaints about the gameday experience from last season was this exact position.
I think what you are referring to is a sideline commentator for radio and/or television. This is totally not the same thing.
One step forward would be to actually have the person addressing the student section. They put them in the Falcon Club corner (probably a logistics thing) almost as far away as possible from the target audience most of the time.
I've already said in another thread that the job would be best served if it were done by a broadcasting major, but maybe this listing five months before the season is a sign that they're going to find a better fit than tossing someone a mic because they have a loud voice.

I am with Sub Zero on this one. I think this position could be good help for the public relations of the football team. I am completely aware that this person is not going to be the one who gets the butts back in the seats. The 22 guys on the field are going to have to do that. But if this increases the game day experience for even half of the people in attendence then the position has done its job...unless of course it's annoying the other half. If done right, this could be a great thing.

Well, it hasn't been publicly announced (to my knowledge), but I know who the new Sideline Personality is. Assuming that the Athletic Dept has not told her to do things we've all deemed "awful," it should be fine.
I work with this girl at church and she's got great charisma and she'll do a great job. From what she describes, she will be addressing the student section trying to get them into the game.
I'm going to go out on a limb (kind of scary with you guys sometimes ), but I think she'll be great in this position and it will be an overall benefit to the game day experience.
Oh - and her voice isn't extremely high!
