No Decision On New Divisions... Yet

Post by psc2009 »

The MAC cleared up some things. There will be to 7-team divisions and they'll play 8 conference games (8 division, 2 crossover). A formal announcement is expected before the end of the month.

I would hope they aren't going to just throw BG back to the West and call it a day.

How about having a North and a South division instead?

The South Division would include all of the original MAC teams from Ohio:

BG
UT
Ohio
Miami
Kent
Akron
Temple

The North Division

E. Michigan
W. Michigan
C. Michigan
N. Illinois
Ball St.
Buffalo
UMass

Good job BG Writer. I like that. To keep all in the truly eastern half of the MAC happy, just switch Ball State with Temple and let's play football!

Send it to the Commish.

Go Falcons!

I definitely think that UMass and Temple should be forced to beat up on each other for however long they are both in the MAC. I say give those teams the highest possible travel bills. Screw 'em!

VDub: It's not a matter of screwing them, I just think it's common sense; having either one in a division with NIU is counter-intuitive.

I don't understand...they haven't done anything wrong. They have accepted invitations to join the conference along the lines of what everybody agreed on. If you think somehow that being football-only is wrong, then I would think you'd be upset with the existing 12 members. It isn't like they promised something and then reneged.

You're absolutely right. I guess I'm more upset about the MAC getting the shaft when it comes to stuff like this. The Big East letting ND in on a bball only contract is one thing...and very smart for them. ND has a HUGE fan base. UMass and Temple? Not so much.

Notre Dame is in the Big East for all sports, except for football, where they are an independent. That's different than the MAC.
