We also don't fit the academic profile of the Big 10 or Big East. They are virtually all research institutions with larger students populations. We are a major public university, but we are focused on undergraduate liberal arts and pre-professional programs. UC, WVU, and Pitt (the 3 closest Big East schools) are all large research institutions with major medical schools. Athletic affiliations are based on more than just how many fans we draw for football games. The Big Ten is almost exclusively made of state flagship / land-grant schools (UM and Northwestern being the exceptions, but both have med schools and BIG time academics).

Oh yeah, I really have no inclination to think this has a chance of happening. And I think most of us would agree with that. But hypothetically speaking, if on some crazy chance an offer were to be laid on the table, I'd support BG taking the opportunity.

Yeah looks like some people missed the "If in some fantasy world" line that daspollak used when the thread was started

[quote="sportydude1818"]Unfortunately in the new college football world , many of the MAC , Conf USA, WAC and MTN west schools are going to essentially be playing 1-aa football. There will be 4 or 5 16 team super conferences playing for all the big money. This will be where all the TV money and BCS ( if it still exists will be ) .. If you are not in a major super conference than you are just playing insignificant football.

quote]

I don't understand why not playing in a BCS conference would be "insignificant football". I don't think the current D1-AA thinks they are insignificant. And don't tell that to the players, too.

The main reason I wouldn't care if BG did not get placed in one of the super conferences is that it will not have to deal with all of the corruption and greed that is ruining college sports. Let's face it, the BCS pretty much ruined what being a student-athlete was all about.

It would be amazing to see the Falcons in the Big Ten or another BCS conference, and I would be in favor of ditching the rivalry games. However, the chance that this situation would ever happen is extremely improbable. However, I agree with the post above in favor of applying to the Big East. What is there to lose at this point?

Welcome to the forum...we had a major row about political discussion anywhere on the site so you might want to go with a different avatar.....the Kundera quote is, however, the aces...
