New videoboard should be ready by spring game
Re: New videoboard should be ready by spring game
Personally, we should place it at Cochrane Stadium for soccer. Our soccer program is gaining strength. They just replaced the seating, update the shrubbery, have a great field and put in lights. Now let's install a videoboard. Winner!!!!!

Reading between the lines...actually listening to the subtext...of the ask the AD segment. It sounds like the board kinda sucks and the picture quality wouldn't be worth the $$$ it would cost to set it up somewhere else..

Hey speaking of dropping baseballs...The Tigers could start an opening day infield of Fielder, Raburn, Peralta and Cabrera.

Their pitchers might set a record for un-earned runs allowed.Flipper wrote:Hey speaking of dropping baseballs...The Tigers could start an opening day infield of Fielder, Raburn, Peralta and Cabrera.
No, wait a second, I don't know enough about Raburn, but Fielder, Cabrerra and Peralta cover a range of about 2 feet to each side of where they are standing, so they won't get to enough balls to commit errors.

Yep...and Raburn at 2B would probably be the worst of those players defensively, since you don't know much about Raburn.Warthog wrote:Their pitchers might set a record for un-earned runs allowed.Flipper wrote:Hey speaking of dropping baseballs...The Tigers could start an opening day infield of Fielder, Raburn, Peralta and Cabrera.

That being said? Who gives a s**t because they'll hit the piss out of the ball

Heard Jim Leyland on 97.1 this AM. The less intelligent host actually asked him if he thought they could move Peralta to 2B and then make Inge the SS....Leyland said "no" but you got the sense he wanted to just hang up and go back to bed...
Screw it...at one point the Reds won 100 games with Perez at 3RD and Lee May at 1st. Of course...they had Davey Concepcion at short...

Peralta really worries me this year. He's never shown the ability to put back to back offensive seasons together, and his defense is steady but he has no range at all. I'm really worried we're going to be playing a mediocre defensive SS that hits OPSes .700 (as he's done all too often).

We have a problem with student attendance. What do students at BG like to do? Drink. Create a Hineygate like atmosphere just outside the stadium where you have bands and the video board is playing the games of the day and you are going to draw students out of there apartmetns and dorms. Shuttle students from campus and offcampus areas and you will get even more. Some of those will trickle into the stadium. My roommates in college would not have come out to go into the stadium and watch BG play but they would have went to an all day party that included the BG game.

Improving student attedance is important, but the money is elsewhere....students are "free riders" in the sense that you have thier money already if they show up or not. Improving the bottom line requires getting alums who live nearby like me and locals to show up and buy tickets.
I think Perlta will be OK with the bat...he was the Tribe's SS for four years (05-08) and his OPS was .885, .708, .771 and .804. They moved him to third and he went into a funk. That .701 looks bad...but a number of players fall off that second year. I am most worried about the black OBP hole that is our leadoff man.

That's ALWAYS an issue for the Tigers. I don't think I've truly liked the leadoff guy in Detroit since Tony Phillips. Still, I do think AJax will bounce back a bit, although he's never been a big OBP guy, and his BA will never be what it was in 2009 unless he finds a way to make contact more often. Still, I think he'll be better than he was last year.Flipper wrote:Improving student attedance is important, but the money is elsewhere....students are "free riders" in the sense that you have thier money already if they show up or not. And the combo of Boesch-Cabrera-Fielder-Young-Avila should be good for a s**t load of runs just the 5 of them. If they get anything out of 2B (Raburn?) and SS (Peralta plays as you suggest?) their offense will be the best in the league.

Re: New videoboard should be ready by spring game
I live in Reds Country bygawd, so I've seen quite enough of Prince Fielder thank you very much. The cat moves. Yes he has that big ole can but he can scoot pretty well. I don't think he'll be mistaken for Adrian G. in Boston, but he's not a butcher in the field and his range is not much if any smaller than other first basemen. They only take two steps anyway. If he continues to grow however.....
It will be fun watching him hit at least two triples this year in that big old outfield.
I'm looking forward to a new videoboard and think the old one should be turned horizontal and used for ultimate beer pong played with pitchers and whiffle balls the size of grapefruit.

That same "problem" exists at others schools as well, and even more so at other MAC schools such Ohio for example. But they still get more students at games than we do in football and especially basketball. The two reasons I see that for is, one, they are better than we are in both sports and have had more success in recent years. And two, more school spirit. I have seen our own students wearing Ohio gear. Go to OU and you won't see anyone wearing BG gear. Better success and more school pride equals better turnout.Globetrotter wrote:We have a problem with student attendance. What do students at BG like to do? Drink.

On second thought let's give the microtron to GC as a going away present at the end of the year.
