Only thing positive was our defense and a few running plays. This was a missed chance and I hope Clawson doesn't sugar coat it.bgdodgeball4 wrote:Wow.. so much negativity in this thread. I'm disappointed too, don't get me wrong. But that's a top 25 team and a top defense in the SEC. Mistakes, yes, but we would have had to play near perfect football to beat that team.

Yeah, good game there. I thought for sure we'd keep fighting into the fourth, but joplin had an off day today and unraveled. Field goals, pretty much the same old hat. Overall, we fought pretty well. Nothing to really hang our heads about, just a bit disappointing on the finish.gwright64 wrote:Well done Falcons. Team showed a lot of heart, and did not melt down in the 4th. Florida has a lot of work to do, obviously, but I see some good things....and some horrible things.....Apparently we are going with Driskel.....or not...but one of the two...Good luck the rest of the way to you all.

Good luck to you guys the rest of the way.
Re: Florida game thread
I realize we wanted a win today, but I still think that today will have some people questioning the balance of power in the MAC.
Florida has some uncertainty on offense...if they want to make a run at the title. If they played in the MAC, that offense would be enough to win every game. That defense will likely be one of the top 10 in D-1.
Despite that, we took that team clear to the 4th quarter. The announcers tune changed completely from the beginning of the game to the end, and the guy even acknowledged that the game wasn't decisively over with 5 minutes to go.
Based on the MAC results so far, I don't think any team can claim that they would have done as well as ours did today. If we can clean up some miscues, and find a kicker that can do his job, this will be a very good year.

The last good kicker we had was Vrvillo in 07-08, right? Way too long to not have anybody who can kick a ball through the uprights.

The Falcons did well. I knew Florida was going to get penalized a boat load, and we managed to do that. BGSU needs to find a kicker...
I was disappointed in the 3rd down conversions you had, but will have to watch the tape, as I know we substituted a lot.....Florida has a lot to work on.
Good luck the rest of the way, Falcons.

Wow. I'm not surprised at the disappointment but I am surprised at the magnitude.
They played reasonably well against a ranked SEC team losing by 13 in a very tough environment. I doubt any of the players are taking this loss as a win. How they respond will tell us a lot about the team.
The response on this board tell me a great deal about the type of year it's going to be around here. Lighten up, Francesesesses.

Few quick thoughts ...
We just went toe for toe with a top 25 SEC team that might win their division. We ran the ball great. We lost on two missed FGs and a few dropped passes, one of which was picked off. Defense largely looked excellent, O Line held up great.
Look at the rest of the MAC ...
Ohio beat a bad PSU team. Bobcats looked good.
NIU went toe to toe with an Iowa team breaking in a new offense down to a fifth string halfback who was a WR last year.
That team down south didn't bother playing today.
BG might very well be the best team in the conference. All the mistakes today are correctable. This team is set for a HUGE season!

Yep...I'm proud of the effort, impressed by the intensity and looking fwd to conference play. Also considering not reading this board until January...if I want to read a bunch of anti-BG stuff, I'll find a UT board.

I think we all want a program that can go into Gainesville and win. That didn't happen today. But we've made a ton of progress toward that goal, right?
