Re: Jones Invited to NFL Combine
Did he play in that all-star game last week that was put on by the NFL? If so, I didn't see him or hear him mentioned. Was there another game and if so does anyone know how he did?

He played quite a bit, started and was in a normal rotation on the D-Line. They didn't highlight him until the third quarter when he stuffed a couple runs, but when they talked about him, they had great things to say about his ability and about his workouts that week.
Curiously, though, he appeared to be the only player on either team that didn't have his name on his jersey.

He was also not listed on the games website (not on the roster). It was odd.....TG1996 wrote:He played quite a bit, started and was in a normal rotation on the D-Line. It seemed like he might have been a late add, but you'd think they could find someone to screen "Jones" on the back of a uniform. Was funny, though, the one time they started talking him up, he must've seen it on the big screen, as he started pointing over his shoulder to the blank nameplate.gspointer wrote:He was also not listed on the games website (not on the roster). Since I work for the Colts and I assist at the combine I do get access to all the players. If anyone has a question that they would like me to ask Mr. Jones maybe someone could start a thread and I can ask him some of your questions and I can then post them on here after the combine is over.

Globe, I work in marketing and promotions. That's why I get so frustrated with the lack of marketing and half ass promotions BG decides to throw out there. I have had numerous conversations with people at BG but not once have a seen a change. I am not pointing fingers but better marketing in and around campus will increase attendance by 20%. Sure that doesn't sound like much but if those 20% would bring a friend and that friend would bring a friend your slowly building your fan base. Personally, if I were BG I would cut season ticket prices by half and individual tickets in half. Sure your revenue would drop in half, but if you attract 20% new fans, you can make up some of revenue in concessions, parking, etc. We lowered prices this year with the Colts after Manning left. By half way through the season we were sold out every game. Already for next year season ticket sales are up 18%. Of course BG will not lower prices to attempt to increase ticket sales. Been with the Colts for 9 years now.

Bowling Green probably has the cheapest season tickets in the nation.gmartin wrote:Globe, I work in marketing and promotions. What do you want them priced at? $5?
I paid $12.50 per ticket per game for seats on the 50, with 2 free parking passes. BG's tickets are already ridiculously low priced.
They also offered 1/2 price parking coupons. Which means for less than $50 you could park and take a family of 4 to a game. That is insanely cheap for major college football. Heck, high school football around here will run you more than that.
You build fan bases by winning. I'm guessing the Colts were selling out games 1/2 way through the season because the fans realized they were good and have a great young QB. And season ticket sales are up because of that young QB, an inspirational coach and a team coming off a playoff birth.

Falcon 137, I completely agree with you about football, but a part of marketing is "getting that information to the public and HOW it is done. I think that is where BGSU needs help. It is not the Falcon faithful on this board and others that pay close attention to athletics that need it, but those fringe people in NW Ohio and SE Michigan that have a connection to BG, that need to know that it is a fun and economical way to spend a Saturday afternoon (or Wednesday night) We also need to create a game atmosphere that is fan friendly for students and other fans. I also think every revenue coach, including assistants, should spend at least an hour of every week with different student groups, housing units, etc., as well as encouraging their athletes to promote their sport at every chance they get. All this in addition to WINNING!

I agree with you 100% on everything you said. I was just disagreeing that the way to do it is by lowering ticket prices.factman wrote:Falcon 137, I completely agree with you about football, but a part of marketing is "getting that information to the public and HOW it is done.
