Not dead yet. The Ilitch family is looking at Comerica Park as a venue if the Lions go forward. Definitely will be less comfortable weatherwise than Ford Field. Here's the link to the DetNews story.

Well, with any luck BC may be in a bowl game again soon, any bowl game. After some abysmal seasons in recent years they should be happy to play in any postseason game. Talk about arrogance there.

How does this reflect poorly on Detroit? The Lions are trying to bring in a bigger conference matchup and obviously think they can attract a sufficient crowd. Unnecessary cheap shot...

A whole lot of information is missing here. The NCAA approves bowl games. Ken Hoffman has one. The Detroit Lions do not. So, do the Lions control Ford Field to the point where they could push the MAC's game out into the cold if they win NCAA approval for a bowl game of their own? That wouldn't seem right, just from the perspective of city leaders, who surely want the place booked as often as possible.

And it isn't as if Ford Field would be the first stadium to host more than one bowl game. The Superdome hosts two, for example.

I hope someone can clarify the situation soon. Is it time for Cleveland, Cincinnati or Canton to launch a bowl game?

Yeah, I think those stadiums in Florida host 3 bowl games sometimes. You could certainly do both. As for NCAA approval, with the Lions and Big 10 pushing this it would 100% be approved.

Can't bitch about attendance...it actually did pretty well compared to other bowls over the long run. Ford Field is a sweet house to watch a game.

Also noticed that the Military Bowl, which has involved UT and BG last 2 yrs., is going to be played in Annapolis, rather than DC...(not a bad idea by the way, if you're going to play games outside).... BUT, supposedly the ACC vs. "Conf. USA".... not sure who the heck is even IN C-USA any more, but didn't the ACC have problems filling its bowl commitments last year, and possibly year before too? I know several new teams have been added to the ACC, but wonder what the draw is for some of these schools in a bowl game.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, or as Kwame Kilpatrick might say, a kickback in cash is worth two checks that might bounce.

They are banking on fans from a mid-tier ACC team leaving their temperate locale and traveling to a run down, crime infested city in the middle of the winter to see a matchup against the likes of Purdue or Illinois, possibly even outside!

The best thing they had going was the MAC's regional proximity and the fact that bowl games for MAC teams mean more to their fans. If they don't think that's good enough for them anymore I can only wish them luck.

The Detroit Free Press today had more detail. It sounds like whoever runs Ford Field isn't willing to offer Perles a lease beyond this winter. Cold. Literally. (If the MAC ends up with a bowl game at Comerica).
