Re: OU, KSU, NIU & UT receiving votes in Preseason Poll
I honestly thought Tulsa was going to be ranked coming into the Doyt. They are a seriously good team, even with big losses on defense. Time to whip those guys!

Tulsa may end up being the most difficult OOC game BG has, glad to have it at home.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

We're going find out right away if this team has taken the next step and is ready to win tough games. I believe this game will set the tone for the first half of the season. If we don't come out hungry to kick the crap out of Tulsa it will disappointing given the experience of this team.

Exactly... If we don't come out and play like a team that expects to win a game against a top 25 caliber team...and I think we might me at that level ourselves...I'll be hugely disappointed.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Could be though I think IU and MSU will be tough games to win on the road. I like that Tulsa is at home to open the season. Should have a great crowd and great game plan for this one.jpfalcon09 wrote:Tulsa may end up being the most difficult OOC game BG has, glad to have it at home.

I have a hard time believing Kent State will come close to last year. Yes they have both backs back but lost a ton on D, their QB and 3/5th's of their O Line.

I agree. A good illustration of how some of these media folks base their vote on traditional strength of a program or how a particular team did last year and fail to do the thorough research of this year's team before making their selections. That's why I put very little stock in that stuff and wish they would just wait until a handful of games are played before doing these polls.

Re: OU, KSU, NIU & UT receiving votes in Preseason Poll
Matt Campbell is a 2013 USA Today poll voter so that explains Toledo's inclusion with a whopping one vote. They probabaly do have a top 25 offense combined with a bottom 25 defense.
NIU is the media's pet MAC team and is highly overrated. OU always disappoints and Kent lost most of the linemen who blocked for their running backs.
Tulsa is the real threat. Their defense is their lone potential vulnerability so we'll quickly find out how much our offense has improved.

Agreed Beaker. NIU deserves votes, IMO.Beaker wrote:Falconfreak90 wrote:I have a hard time believing Kent State will come close to last year. Yes they have both backs back but lost a ton on D, their QB and 3/5th's of their O Line.

As far as Tulsa, their D did lose about 7 starters from last season...4-5 of which were all Conf USA.
We need to come out of the tunnel from the opening kickoff on a mission...

AP poll was released.

FWIW, no votes for Tulsa, Mississippi State, Toledo, Kent or Ohio. The Tulsa fans can't be too pleased.
