I can't think of a scenario where we win the east without closing it out with 4 straight wins..

Like you, I want to win out, however the other part of your scenario would make me a bit more nervous than I already am, having to play Buffalo at their place! For them to be 7-0, that would mean that they are able to go into the glass blow and beat toledo, a team that we didn't (could have) beat in our own back yard. Just sayin.........kdog27 wrote:I don't know about anyone else but I just want to win out, period. I want it to be a 7-0 Buffalo team vs a 6-1 BG team with the winner taking it all. I want to see this team win 4 must win games in a row and earn it straight up. If we back in to it, it won't feel right to me.

I understand the reasoning of wanting Buffalo to lose. The game will be much more intriguing if we both come in on a roll. I would also feel a hell of a lot better about the MAC championship game if we could beat an unbeaten Buffalo team on the road with everything on the line. It's time to start acting like a top MAC team.

Toledo beats Buffalo
We beat Buffalo
All three teams finish 6-2 and are 1-1 against each other...BG goes to Detroit based on cross-division SOS.
Boom.

Ah..I thought we were the loser on the three way tiebreaker....doesn't matter....we're closing it out with four straight wins in November any way.

Re: It's getting to be bowl season again....
Did some ciphering yesterday and have some bad news for MAC teams. According to my calculations, 58 teams are bowl eligible so far. That leaves 38 on the bubble. Which means that for every team over twelve that become bowl eligible, teams start dropping out. Unfortunately, that usually means MAC teams. Thus, it becomes even more important for BGSU to beat Ohio and more over them in the pecking order. Ultimately, it will take a MAC east championship to guarantee a bowl trip....
Re: It's getting to be bowl season again....
The MAC has 4 guaranteed spots, right now. That number goes to 5 if NIU gets in the BCS.

Little Caesars Pizza
Boise
Poinsettia Bowl (MAC is the backup for Army, who can not become eligible.)
The 5th / 6th would be the Beef O'Brady's bowl. It's the 6th bowl tie in for the AAC. SMU is the only chance the AAC has to fill that spot. They have to win 3 of their last 4. I don't think they get to 6 still having to play, @ Houston and vs UCF.
NIU, Ball State, and Toledo are locks, in that order. The last 3 weeks will determine Buffalo, BG, and OU's bowl chances. Unless something crazy happens, I don't see CMU making a bowl unless there are only 70 teams eligible. So while it's not rosy. There's certainly a lot of chances still out there.
Funny thing is, we could not win the East and get a much better bowl opponent / location. The Big10 probably won't have enough teams to send someone to the Pizza Bowl. Winning the East could mean playing Troy in Detroit. Losing could mean ECU or Marshall in St. Petersburg or someone like Boise St in San Diego.

If Toledo loses to Buff and NIU, they won't go bowling.

Basically, just take care of our own business and we should be bowling somewhere.

Let's look at this from the other perspective. Let's say we lose to Buffalo and Ohio and finish 7-5.
If that's the case, does anybody really think we would be worthy of a bowl? I wouldn't. Especially when none of those 7 wins came against anybody halfway decent.
On the other hand, an 8-4 finish would ensure that we at least beat 1 team with an over .500 record, and 9-3 means we win the division which would definitely justify our inclusion.
It all boils down to these two big games, tomorrow night against Ohio, and on the 29th against Buffalo.
I agree with Flipper in that Toledo is most definitely NOT a lock at this point. If they lose against Buffalo and NIU, we would definitely leapfrog them in the pecking order unless we lost to both Buffalo and Ohio. If we beat Ohio and Toledo loses to Buffalo tomorrow, that 5th bowl slot probably becomes a battle between the Rockets and the Bobcats. (I think Northern Illinois will be in the top 10 by season's end and going to the BCS along with Fresno State, as wins over Ball State and Toledo would certainly help their ranking, as would losses by other teams)

Re: It's getting to be bowl season again....
Eliminated from bowls:
UConn, Temple, Purdue, Penn State, Virginia, Kansas, Iowa State, UAB, FIU, Southern Miss, Tulsa, UTEP, Army, Idaho, New Mexico State, Air Force, Nevada, Hawaii, Akron, UMass, Kent State, Miami OH, EMU, WMU, Kentucky, Arkansas, California, Georgia State
So, 28 schools are already out of bowl contention. That leaves 96 schools still vying for 70 spots.
The next list are those teams with 6 losses who are likely going to be eliminated:
South Florida, Memphis, NC State, Illinois TCU, West Virginia, FAU, New Mexico, CMU, Tennesee, Colorado
11 teams there, so we're down to 85 teams left with a "realistic" shot at making a bowl game. 15 teams also have 5 losses, so in a perfect world where all those teams lose out, every bowl eligible team would be able to get in.
