Ohio @ BGSU gamethread

Post by Falcon137 »

A game this big deserves it's own thread.

TV: ESPN3
Weather: Kickoff : 30 degrees partly cloudy
End of game : 25 degrees partly cloudy
Line: Bowling Green -10 (Bovada) Over / Under : 49

It will be fun watching Blankenship and Tettleton go against the BG defense. Blankenship went for 97 yards on 18 carries last year. OU struggled mightily last week against Buffalo getting anything going on offense. Blankenship only managed 68 yard and Tettleton went 14/31 for 126 yards.

I'm thinking we see a heavy dose of Travis Greene and Fred Coppet. The only time Johnson has attempted more than 30 passes has been against BCS teams. Greene has rushed for 100+ yards against every MAC schools, with the exception of Toledo, 96 yards on 19 carries. I like him going against an OU D, that gave up 252 yards against Buffalo last week.

Here's a fun stat. Through 9 games Matt Johnson is averaging 27.1 attempts per game. Last year over the course of 13 games, Schilz threw it an average of 31.7 times. BG is running roughly the same number of plays per game also (2013- 71.1 2012 - 68.8). Without looking, I thought that number would have been much higher with how improved the passing game has been.

My prediction
BG- 31
OU- 17

Good preview...and I agree, we ought to run the ball right at the OU D. Bundle up cuz it will be a cold one...which is ok cuz it will be easy to hide a couple brews in the coat. LOL.

I am not convinced OU is as good as some people believe and BG *should* win this one by 10-14 pts. Of course as BGSU33 pointed out elsewhere, we've lost 3 straight to OU on our home turf. Time to stop that...

Falcons 31, Bobcats 21.

I've watched enough OU this year to know they're pretty much an average team. Tettleton has been less than stellar and he's barely ran the ball at all. They like to give Blankenship about 25 carries a game and beat you on the ground. They'll be down their top WR and also have some injuries to their OL and on defense. Watch for WR Cochran to be a big factor for OU and they also like to bring in Boykin as a change of pace RB.

We're a better team than OU so if we show up ready to go we should win somewhat easily. We should be leading after the first quarter and have control by the third quarter. If we start slow we may be sweating at halftime.

Weather will factor in somewhat. To whose advantage? No 12 man factor. Probable 7 thousand at the start and 2000 at the end depending on the score

Looks like 28 degrees at kickoff with a NW wind at 8mph, estimated wind chill at 20 degrees. Its gonna be cold.

I like the optimism from those who have posted. Hopefully, the team comes out ready to play and takes control of this game from the start, and leaves no doubt on its way to a win.

But...it's Clawson...it's OU...it's at home...and I'm (sort of) from Missouri. Show me.

I hope the team plays 110%. Leaves it all on the field. Listens to their heart.

Dome over the university is almost completely up. Should be a nice 75 degrees by kickoff!

That's my take on it too. I want to believe, but this is exactly the kind of situation we have fallen short in when we're facing a must-win situation against a good team, and in many cases, even when we're playing at home. Our track record in recent years is filled with pitfalls in these type of scenarios. On paper, I think we edge OU out by a slim margin. But this will be played on turf. OU's been the best team overall in the East for several years, was picked to win the East this year, has several All-MAC caliber players on both sides of the ball, and has certainly had our number in the Doyt.

As mentioned, Tettleton isn't running the ball as much this year, but let's not lose track in the fact that he still CAN hurt you with his legs. Further, OU has a much, much better big-strike offense with passes down field than we do. We run and dink and dunk our way down the field, and with guys like Foster, they can go 80 yards on you in one play. The still appear to be running a lot of The Pistol and have a couple guys in the backfield who can run, but just when you get lulled to sleep, they attack through the air. Last year after our game, Tettleton commented how that was one of the best defenses they had faced all year. We're going to need to produce a similar performance like that again this year while also avoiding the slow starts that have killed us at times this season.
GO BG!!!

Campus is already blanketed in snow, except for streets and sidewalks. My guess is that the field will be snow-free tomorrow, but we'll know for sure at game time. The cold will definitely not be fun for anyone.

Weather for Tuesday during the day in BG says sunny and in the mid-30's. The field will be fine. Yeah, it'll be cold, but dress warm. At least it will be dry and unlike the rain/snow and wind right now.

As far as the weather goes...put on some gloves and your beer coat. You'll be fine!
