BG vs UB should be televised

Post by BGSU33 »

I plan to make the trip to Buffalo, but looking at the MAC slate for November 29, I can't see how the BG/UB game won't be televised as it is by far the biggest and most meaningful of them all:

Nov. 29 – Friday
Bowling Green at Buffalo, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)
Eastern Michigan at Central Michigan, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)
UMass at Ohio, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)
Miami at Ball State, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)
Toledo at Akron, TBA (ESPNU/ESPN3)
GO BG!!!

I could see us falling behind the Toledo game or the Ball State game depending on how the West is shaping up. I would say it is more likely that our game makes TV over those two, but those are the two games that are possibilities for leaping over us.

Checking ESPN.com, I think we are the ESPNU game, kickoff at 1:30.

Something else to keep in mind about the BG/UB game on the 29th....Buffalo win have 10 days to prepare for BG as the Bulls play at Miami on the 19th. BG will play just 6 days before facing UB as the Falcons fall back to a Saturday game on the 23rd at EMU, and we must travel to Buffalo.

We are not the ESPNU game yet. All of the MAC games have ESPNU next to them. Only one will be chosen. We are the only one with a game time because one had to be set with the game being played at Ralph Wilson Stadium I believe.

And jumping ahead, if NIU holds on to win the West, it plays on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, while the rest of the league plays on the day after. That's an extra three days to rest/prepare over the East champion.

I won't complain about those discrepancies during the regular season, but I think everyone should end the regular season on the same day leading up to the MACC.

This is a great point. I don't see why the MAC couldn't have everyone close out with league games on Black Friday. It would give the 2 division champs a full week to prepare. Start the weekday MAC games a week earlier in late October.

I never thought we would find a reason to bitch about actually getting a Saturday game in November, but there you go. :-D

In all seriousness, I don't think we'll have to put maximum effort into the EMU game. It'll keep up sharp going into Buffalo though, which is good. Unless we have key players get hurt in Ypsilanti I don't see that game being a detriment to us.

Agree totally. We ain't doing much prepping for EMU. We'll be preppring for Buffalo. I'm hoping that Schilz gets the majority of the second half. No need to show Buffalo anything else in a meaningless game that we should be able to win with mostly 2nd teamers.

Tom,

I don't want to alarm anyone, but if we look past the obvious "trap game", it could bite us in the ...ah...you know where... EMU, as I've mentioned before in another thread, has played us tough in several games over recent years... Stan Parrish is a solid coach who's already coached them to win last week... don't take anything for granted...play one game at a time...Yes, think about Buffalo (as coaches plan for them), but DON'T attempt to slide by this week.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the EMU is meaningless, as far as winning the MAC East. Winner takes all in Buffalo on November 29.

WB,
I've of the opinion that NO game is meaningless, but I understand your point re: the winner of the BG-UB game will be the E.Div. champ. Just think about bowl implications in addition to the obvious... John Wagner currently has us rated BELOW Buffalo, despite their beat down from UT on Tues. nite. (maybe he was reacting to 600+ yrds gained by UB)...
Just know that we SHOULD be a more attractive bowl team than Buffalo; with a loss to EMU on our resume that advantage would go down the pipes.

You are right, I meant in terms of winning the MAC East and going to a bowl. In my opinion, we won't get to a bowl if we don't go to the MAC Championship. Ball St and Toledo should go before us. I only see 1 MAC east team going bowling.

This Buffalo game is huge. Win and we get 2 more games. Lose and we're done.

TWB is correct. If we don't win the East, we most likely ain't going bowling. And we only accomplish that by beating Buffalo regardless of the EMU game. And the winner of the East automatically gets a bowl. Therefore, the EMU game is meaningless IMHO.

I guess you are correct. I had forgotten about the conference records of the teams in the East. Ohio now has 2 losses, we have 1, and Buffalo has 1. If we lose to EMU but beat Buffalo, then we'll all three have 2 losses, but we'll hold the tie-breakers over Buffalo and Ohio.

That being said, let's just destroy EMU and win the division outright with a win over Buffalo. I'm not completely current on ALL of the tie-breaker rules, so I really don't want to chance that I may be wrong on this tie-breaker holding over UB and OU.
