A new BGSU sports website!!

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

One of our own, TG1996, has created a new website dedicated to the rich history of BGSU Sports. He's been digging for information for the past few months and has put together a great looking site full of the results of his efforts.

I've also made him a columnist here at Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba.com. You can read about the site in his own words at http://www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com/articles/footnotes/

The link to his new site is there as well! Check it out and feel free to use this thread to leave feedback!!

Personally, I think his new site looks fantastic and is a perfect compliment to both BGSUFalcons.com and Ay-ziggy-zoomba.com! Look for lots more content to come!!

This is a neat idea.

I could see it going in all sorts of directions.

One thing that would be fun is to get stuff up there that we can find no where else on the Web but always wonder about, such as:

-- Past standings.
-- Past rankings.
-- Team records.

(Would a .pdf of recent media guides constitute copyright infringement?)

But, I like other place it seems it could go, which is articles on moments big and small in BGSU history.

For an idea of what I'm thinking, check out this site, which is absolutely fantastic, from the Professional Football Researchers Association:

http://www.footballresearch.com/

There are a ton of absolutely fascinating, rigorously researched articles up there.

Just thinking out loud.

It's well designed, TG. Nice work!

Thanks, Schad.

And I think you've hit what I'm going for right on. I don't know what is infringing, or what is "fair use" out of the media guide, but I'm trying to give credit as required in the works, especially with specific authors. I started with alot of the "leg work" off the top to get an idea of what its capable of, but I'm totally open to suggestions and submissions. Everyone has a favorite memory or access to a different story about a paper. I've already collected a couple articles from a former writer for the BG News in the mid 80's, and posted one of them ("Forever Falcon" in the index). I've read it twice now and even though I was 10 when alot of this went down, it gave me chills, and in a way, inspired me to do more.

I'm trying to focus more on biographies of people, stadiums and memorable events now, but am keeping an eye to putting career leaders, records and more statistical information (that would be easily updatable, and probably just the "big ones") on there in the future. While at least for awhile I'll probably take an "editors" sort of role with formatting and "cleaning up" submissions as needed, I encourage anyone and everyone to join in!

TG,

That is really cool! Definitely a keeper as a fave site. Nice work, man! :supz:

Will be nice to see all the stats without having to leaf thru 5 different media guides.

96,
Nice job on the website...already listed with my favorites... you might want to check out the email I sent you about BG's 1st bowl appearance in 61...not a pleasant story..but one that should be told perhaps for the benefit of those who never heard it.

Got your email, 61, thanks! Those are the kinds of stories I'm looking for! I know I mentioned the reason for the bowl a little more indepth, I think on the Doyt Perry page, but you're right, it deserves its own page! Thanks!

And WHY does it need its own page? For jackasses like this that I found while looking up more information.

The article is decent at best, but just another display of some two-bit hack trying to be cute, and when you get down to the Mercy Bowl, you'll find out why he's a jackass.

See what you mean...if he'd taken a few minutes to actually read WHY it had that name, he might've been a bit "gentler" in describing it.

Some excellent stuff here.

Sadly, I have to report that a bunch of stuff that might have been useful (old BG News clips, etc.) were lost during some recent household flooding.

TG - If I find anything remaining, I'll be glad to pass it along. In the meantime, if there's a way I can help, drop me a line.

Great job TG on the website. I'll spread the word around that it is available. I know where there is a closet full BGSU information that I would be happy to give to you.

TG1996, I don't mean to sound reptitive but you have done a great job on that site thus far. It's always fun to learn new things about your alma mater and it is nice to have another good website to visit.

I'll believe it when I see it, old man.

87 and Schad... would LOVE some freelancers. Researchers, writers, ideamakers, financial contributors... Anything you've got, feel free to pass it along to me. As I mentioned before, everyone has their own memories and own collections, feel free to give suggestions!

How in the 1950's BG in football could compete for the national title but can't anymore. Does anyone really know how the landscape changed that much that teams like us can't hope of reaching that goal anymore? :?
