The dominos are starting to fall after Clawson's departure
The dominos are starting to fall after Clawson's departure
Looks like strength coach Brandon Hourigan is headed to Wake Forest too. Clawson was asked about DC Elko and OC Ruggiero and he plans to ask both to go too (others could follow). No surprise there. I just hope we're not left with a skeleton coaching staff for the bowl game at this rate. He was also asked about BG recruits and said he hopes it's not a bridge they have to cross, but obviously could happen.
GO BG!!!

Clawson has already called a least some of the Bowling Green commits personally!

Interesting. It's amazing how so much has changed and happened in such a short time. Just four days ago this time we were in the first quarter of the MAC Championship. Now this....seems like months ago already to me.factman wrote:Clawson has already called a least some of the Bowling Green commits personally!

It's common practice to call a recruit after a coach takes on a new job. I would not assume that he is calling to ask them to change their decision.

No surprise. Looks like it'll be a skeleton crew for the bowl game.

Is this standard, I guess? I seem to remember programs where assistants have stayed behind to coach bowl games. But that could be incorrect. Certainly if Ruggiero and Elko aren't candidates to replace Clawson, then there's nothing keeping them here. But it'll make for interesting bowl prep on both sides.

This puts a lot of pressure on the AD to try and make a good hire very quickly -- to salvage the recruiting class and keep transfers to a minimum at least.
I don't envy him right now. Tough job.

Funny thing....when I saw that Adam got the "interim" title I wondered what happened to Mike and Ruggerio, whose "titles" alone would make them logical candidates for that duty. If BOTH are gone before the bowl, we will definitely be very short handed for the bowl game, much less in keeping the verbals in place.... I'd just hope that Dave wouldn't jump so hard that he'd actually hurt the program... I'd certainly understand if some of the verbals were to switch, but I'd hope he's not trying to bring them all in to NC.

The concern is not losing recruits to Wake Forest as much as just losing recruits (to other MAC schools etc.) as many committed to come to BG specifically for Coach Clawson (or Elko or Ruggerio).Class of 61 wrote:Funny thing....when I saw that Adam got the "interim" title I wondered what happened to Mike and Ruggerio, whose "titles" alone would make them logical candidates for that duty. So did we seriously lose the HC, OC, and DC for the bowl game? Are we actually expected to win?

I can only speak for what I know regarding Coach Elko. He is on his way to Winston Salem where he will be announced the new Defensive Coordinator at Wake Forest. At least as of right now he is planning to be our defensive coordinator for the Little Ceasar's Pizza Bowl. Great guy and a great family....He wants to finish the job here.

These things can go a number of ways. Often, the coaches know they are going to the new school but coach the bowl game. They kind of split duties in the meantime. And...teams win bowl games under these circumstances every year.
Noel is right, the worry about recruits is not Wake Forest but other MAC schools. Clawson is going to be recruiting a new level at Wake.
