We can use this to track who is staying and who is going.

Re: Dino's Assistants Announcement/Rumor Page
Hopefully the D-line coach (aka Gramps) decides to retire before possibly making a move to BG.

Doesn't really surprise me if that is indeed the case....Clawson didn't keep anyone from Brandon's staff "A new broom sweeps clean". If Scheier had gotten the gig, I would have expected some of those guys to stick around. Would have liked to keep Monroe and Hunter...I figured Carney was gone because the WR spot will be vastly different in the new system.

Re: Dino's Assistants Announcement/Rumor Page
From his current Staff
OC-Sterlin Gilbert-Joined Babers at EIU after coaching HS in Texas. Somewhat young.
DC-Kim McCloud-Coached at Baylor from 2008-2009, Akron 2010 and then EIU last 2 years.
DB-Chanterius Brock-HS coach in Michigan but seems for not many years
DL-Tom Freeman-30 year vet of coaching at Purdue, Arizona St and Pittsburgh (all with Babers) as well as the CFL.
DT-Dino Kaklis-Former Purdue long snapper was head coach at Bethel and held all time wins lead.
LB-Tom Kaufman-Former John Carroll player coached at Heidelberg and Case before stints at Texas and Kansas
WR-Sean Lewis-Former Wisconsin TE coached HS in Illinois, was Grad Assistant at Akron
RB-Mke Lynch-EIU Coach for 9 years prior was at Utah State
OL-Matt Mattox-First year with Babers, coached at Junior College prior, was a TE and T for Briles at Houston
WR-Andrew Sowder-Coached and Played at Baylor as a student. Was Babers assistant at Baylor
It seems that Sowder, Freeman and McCloud all have close connections with Babers.
Kaufman and Kaklis seemed really impressive in the video and with their backgrounds.

Re: Dino's Assistants Announcement/Rumor Page
That is not true. Running backs coach, Coach Hunter was retained from Brandon's staff. It is common place to see at least one or a few coaches retained to maintain some form of continuity for the returning players.Flipper wrote:BGSUSC wrote:He's not keeping anyone from former staff.

You're right...I brain locked on that one. Hunter was here before Clawson. I don't know if they usually keep a guy around or not...I think it's more common to clear them out, but...we'll see what babers does. I would prefer to see the aforementioned guys stick around

I would agree with that. Coach Monroe and Hunter are the two guys I would really like to have stay around. Coach Hunter is an Alum and has done a great job coaching our RB's took a converted WR and coached him into being the all-time leading rusher in school history a year after having a 1,000yd rudher up and leave the program because of personal matters.
Coach Monroe has done a great job with our secondary. We have had so many injuries and players moving out of the program and switching positions and has kept that unit a strength on the team. That's a testament to the relationship he has built with the players and the players buying into him as their coach and playing for him and the team. Correct me if I am wrong, but I also believe he recruits Florida for us and has done a great job.
From my experience, I have usually seen college teams and NFL teams keep at least one coach on new staffs. Most recently we have seen it with BGSU, Ohio State, and the Browns (Just to name teams that I follow)
Not saying that is a key to success or failure, but it does keep comfortability and continuity for the players.

Re: Dino's Assistants Announcement/Rumor Page
One guy that migh be intresting at Baylor is Art Briles son. He is the WR coach and passing game coordinator down there. This could be an opportunity to step out of his family shadow a bit and take on an offense by himself.
Re: Dino's Assistants Announcement/Rumor Page
Kendal Briles would be bigger than Kendall Jenner. That would be terrific.
IMO the most important hire is the defensive coordinator. What was built can't fall apart just because we've gotten into the 21st century on the other side of the ball.

Re: Dino's Assistants Announcement/Rumor Page
The most interesting thing I've found so far is that Coach Babers had 10 assistants at EIU and per NCAA rules only 9 max can come along to BGSU. Whether that's determined by how many he keeps or which assistants attempt to secure the EIU job or whatever remains to be seen
