Offense "is going to be the fastest thing you've ever seen"

Post by mscarn »

So says a columnist from EIU who has seen it for the past two years:

http://www.dennews.com/sports/column-ba ... ak.twitter" target="_blank

A couple long form, registration free articles from the EIU days:

Coach Babers is a movie buff:
http://www.news-gazette.com/sports/illi ... g-run.html" target="_blank

Coach Wittke (the DFO, formerly the OC at Arkansas, Arizona State and NIU) and his new role:
http://jg-tc.com/sports/roy-wittke-is-r ... 963f4.html" target="_blank

The presumptive staff:

Sterlin Gilbert (OC/QB)
Mike Lynch (RB)
Sean Lewis (WR/TE)
Andy Sowder (WR)
Matt Mattox (OL)

Kim McCloud (DC)
Larry McDaniel (DL)
Tom Kaufman (LB/ST)
Nick Monroe (DB)

GA's:
Ben Olson (replacing Aaron Mershman?)
Derek Shay (replacing Alex Stadler?)
Jahmal Brown (staying?)
Marcus Edwards (staying?)

Support:
Sean Edinger (Strength Coach)
Roy Wittke (Director of Football Operations)
Asil Mulbah (Director of Player Personnel-staying?)
Chris Zuccaro (Video Coordinator-staying?)
Others??

I cannot wait to see the offense in action. I'm hoping the spring game will be streamed. That being said I may be in Europe at the time. If so I might see if anyone on the board can DVR it and get it to me.

My number one concern with this offense is, when it's 3rd and 1 or 4th and goal from the 1, can we get that tough yard? That was something we struggled to do miserably for years up until about the last two seasons. I am hoping we add a short-yardage or goal-line package that still involves William Houston because he seems like a misfit right now from what I am reading about and he was very effective for us when called upon last season in those situations. I love the wide-open spread offenses when they are firing on all cylinders, but it drives me nuts when they make 3rd and 1 look impossible when you just need a yard to move the chains.
GO BG!!!

One thing I saw with Baylor this year ... they can run with power. Their o line is physical. I think Houston will fit in just fine.

Yes, but that is Baylor, and we are Bowling Green. I know we are going to run what Baylor does, but that doesn't automatically equate to BG being as effective or efficient as Baylor is. I always get a kick out of when people or teams say they are going to run what school "X" does as if it's a given they will execute the same just because they run the same system. I do have faith we'll be solid at what we run, but time will tell.

I haven't seen EIU in the Baber years, so I'm basing this off of what I've seen which I know he used as EIU's inspiration. EIU isn't on TV enough, so I don't really know a better base for what we could imagine our O looking like than Baylor.

33 is right. You commonly see teams like this more comfortable at 4th and goal from the 5 than 4th and goal from the one.

Houston=our James Connor. Give him some space to run and a head of steam and watch out. Baylor had a power back a few years ago named Terrance Ganaway that Houston compares nicely to.
