Gehrig Deiter and QB comment

Post by 60yearsofsicsic »

Is the transfer from SMU still with the program because him with Gallon Moore and Burbank will be outstanding in the new offense ; my guess on the QB comment is that he is going to go with who will run his system yet and it might not be Johnson

As far as I know, Dieter is still here. Don't forget Roger Lewis. As for Johnson, he was just making a point. Johnson is perfect for this system.

From what I have heard about Deiter, he could actually be our best WR from the info I was given. I was told "think Joplin mold without the drops." I fully expect to see him as a starter at some point next season. I am very excited to see this kid play for BG. As far as QB, if it's not Johnson! then it would be very surprising because Johnson was playing arguably as good as any QB in the MAC despite not making any All-conference teams - but he sure made a major statement by being named MAC Championship MVP!

All they were saying is that each position is to be earned each season. As it should be...... If johnson is the best QB in the Spring and Fall he'll be the starter just like anyone else at any other position. Experience might be a tiebreaker but performance from here forward is what matters.

Dieter looked really good in the spring game and it will be interesting to see him on the field.

FWIW, I had a chance to briefly talk with Gehrig Dieter at the pregame party prior to the MACC game...he's a legit 6'3", 6' 4" unless I'm shrinking fast...was very friendly, pointed out his brother to me when I asked where he was etc. Also looking forward to him becoming a big part of the offense this year. His stats from SMU would certainly indicate somebody with talent.

What was the comment and maybe he wants his bro to be QB?

Gehrig Dieter will be an important WR next year. He has been working very hard and has jumped right into winter along w the other guys. Very good size as mentioned. His brother is a walk on QB.

When you also add back Chris Gallon and Jared Cohen, you have a pretty good nucleus of guys who basically didn't even play. And you can add the very athletic redshirt freshman Teo Redding to that group. Cohen was just coming around when he was hurt and Gallon had a decent first half. Missed the second half when we started meshing.

You add in Jackson and Burbrink who both can make plays and you are in good shape. Maybe a surprise fellow will rise up as so often happens like Coby. Perhaps a recruit will step in and add like all ready enrolled Roger Lewis.

If our athletic tight ends S Davis and S Hinkel come through we could look pretty good w pass catchers.

Go Falcons!

I received an offer from Bowling Green after my sophomore year, and for a long time I planned to go there,” Dieter said. “Then I went to SMU, and shortly after I got there my position coach left, and I wasn’t happy there.

I’ve always liked [offensive coordinator] Warren Ruggerio and [receivers coach] Mark Carney and coach Clawson,” Dieter said. “They always have been positive with me, and we’ve had a good relationship.”

Coaches are paid to be here. Players chose to be here. Those coaches left and are no longer Falcons. Gehrig is here and is a Falcon. And I'm really excited to see him play for us.

I like the idea of him being here too. I wish we could attract more like him.

Ruggerio left but my understanding is Carney would have liked to have stayed but Babers has his own guys already from EIU. Clawson is the one who ultimately left and sometimes assistants get caught in the crossfire. You can't always assume they are deserting their players. I knew a few of the coaches casually and from all accounts both Ruggerio and Carney really cared about their players. I'm sure they are both hoping Gehrig becomes a star.

Thanks for all of the kind words. Gehrig and Nolan are both excited for spring and mostly for next fall. They are hard working blue collar kids who have been waiting a long time to compete again. They are excited to prove themselves to the new staff and to work with their teammates to improve as a team over the next few seasons. They love Bowling Green as do we. Their younger brother Thurman just started school this week and is serving in the Army Reserves and participating in ROTC at BG..so needless to say the Dieter family is "all in" at BG! Stop by and say hi in the fall at the parents tailgate..A fun group of people for sure!

My reference about the QB situation is that Dino might know Nolan is better then Johnson and knows he is a better fit for the offense and that is why he opened up with that statement.... I know most new coaches use that as motivation but there might be more to it since we haven't seen the transfer

Reading way too much into it. He was simply stating that every position is open in his eyes and used QB to make his point to the team. If you work hard and earn it, you'll start. That's how it should be every year, and especially with a new coach coming in.

I also think that is what he meant.
