I think Cody Calloway will be #2 in line.

Re: Matt Johnson
Interesting to consider whether or not it is worth burning Calloway's shirt if James Knapke struggles. I would. This offense is stacked. Win now.factman wrote:I think Cody Calloway will be #2 in line.
Re: Matt Johnson
I know an injury can happen at any time during the game, but we were questioning as to why we had starters out there at that point in the game when we clearly we going to lose. Blowouts and being blown out are perfect times to get your reserves in for snaps and reps. Does anyone know exactly what happened to his hip?Rollo83 wrote:It happened on the last play Matt was in for late in the 4th quarter of the WKU game. He got sacked and it happened on that play. He was OK after the game but it started to bother him the next day. All night bus ride probably didn't help.

And let's all remember last year. This isn't really much different at all.

We have a new offense that clearly needed more live practice time. I would have had him in too. Nothing to complain about there for me.BGSU33 wrote:I know an injury can happen at any time during the game, but we were questioning as to why we had starters out there at that point in the game when we clearly we going to lose. I don't just mean Johnson in that case, I mean ALL your #2's at that point. You'll never get a better time than to give them game experience - in an actual game. And when Knapke did come in, he only handed off, he never attempted a pass. I thought the same thing years ago when Turner had to come in to replace Jacobs. We always let Turner hand off and never pass and when Jacobs went down vs WMU, Turner looked lost.Redwingtom wrote:We have a new offense that clearly needed more live practice time. Re: Matt Johnson
I would have left the #1's in too...clearly, they needed the work and you have to put a priority on getting the 1st squad squared away before worrying about the 2's
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Matt Johnson
I liked what Louisville did years ago, ironically with Jeff Brohm as the backup QB to LeFors. They would let Brohm take 2-3 series beginning of the second quarter. There was never a QB controversy, just building for the future. I'd especially like to see that in OOC games.
Is Nolan Dieter still available. I guess Calloway just beat him out or is N. Dieter not available.

My same exact thought earlier today. Disappointing. Hoping for a speedy recovery.Dayons_Den wrote:Feels a bit like 2005 in having to temper expectations.

Re: Matt Johnson
Good point, Tom. Schilz was pulled after two series and Johnson came in and never left the field. The difference is the injury but it is similar. Let's see what Knapke can do when it's his show. Obviously he is talented and won 3 state titles in HS. Kid is a winner.Redwingtom wrote:And let's all remember last year. This isn't really much different at all.
