Re: Thanks Babers for destroying a once great team
Every coach is just average unless they have the right athletes, the right assistants and the right schedule. It is obvious that both Clawson and Babers had success at lower levels before arriving at BG and in the right situation they may be able to repeat that success at the highest levels of college football. I respect both men for the path they have taken to get to BG and hope them success beyond if given the opportunity. I truly believe BG's reputation is enhanced by Urban Meyer based on those two years he gave us and we gave him.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

What a bunch of hypocrites. Had we lost the game, most of you would have called for Babers' head. Since we lucked out, he is the greatest coach ever. Look at it objectively. we have regressed in almost all aspects of the game. We got lucky to beat the absolute worst bowl team (we are a very close second). Our defense is a mess. Our play calling is pathetic (we call 3 plays: run up the middle, screen to the left and throw long down field). No adjustments at any time throughout the game. Great talent on this team and Babers has no idea how to use it. Next year will be a train wreck and you all will call for his head. Of course, none of you will admit that I am right, but i will have the satisfaction of knowing that the majority of you guys are dreaming and clueless while I suffer another year of horrible football.

It's hard to judge on how a coach is in his first season, esp in football when that usually means, the previous coach recruited most of the current roster.
Also it's not fair to judge Clawson vs. Babers on Bowl wins and losses. Under Clawson, BG played in much stronger Bowl Games against bigger opponents. Good for South Alabama for making it, but they're new to FBS and not an experience FBS power.
We'll have a better critique of Babers after next season with more players he's recruited on the roster as well as a full season of FBS/MAC experience and a Bowl win under his belt.

Re: Thanks Babers for destroying a once great team
Don't recall anyone around here saying Babers is the greatest coach ever, 83. And I won't admit you're right about anything based on ONE year and a ton of injuries. The two "O Coordinators" left for Tulsa as well.
I've been watching BG football since the early to mid 80's and have seen a LOT worse...1988 comes to mind. Now if Babers goes 9-3, 10-2 next year in the regular season, will you stop by and admit you jumped the gun? Damn, give the man a chance.

My grandfather was such a hypocrite....if grandma was a dude, he wouldn't have married her (him)....
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Thanks Babers for destroying a once great team
I don't know which part of this title I find more annoying. The accusation that Babers destroyed this team, or the general belief that it was a great team.
Don't get me wrong, we had a very good team, but it was not great. Clawson got the guys to come together after the it loss and they got hot to finish the season. They had a great year, but the team had flaws even a year ago. Throw in the vastly underestimated losses to graduation and the injuries, and I think this team was far from great before Babers made his first coaching decision.
There is definitely room for improvement from the staff, and I really hope we see some growth on the offensive side of the ball, but I don't think Babers has destroyed anything. (Except our awful losing streaks in bowl games and against bcs opponents...hopefully the ut streak is next)
