Buffalo predictions

Post by jpfalcon09 »

The MAC season kicks off in two days against a Buffalo Bulls team who has shown a competent defense under new head coach Lance Leipold. The weather looks to be a factor as winds will be 20-30mph sustained throughout the day with gusts to 40 with a chance of a scattered shower or two. This would suggest we'll see a lot of running plays from both teams.

Buffalo 17

The weather plays a role in slowing down both offenses enough to keep the game close at half, however the up-tempo style of the BG offense eventually wears down the Bulls' D in the second half, allowing for the Falcons to pull away with a comfortable victory.

If the weather is as bad as predicted, it'll hurt us more than it hurts them. If there's heavy rain and a gusting crosswind that prevents us from having the threat of the deep ball, that'll allow them to load up closer to the line of scrimmage and not have to worry about defending the entire field. We were able to routinely hit the short passes against Purdue because they were laying back and guarding against the deep ball. If the weather allows Buffalo to play us tight to the line of scrimmage, we're likely to have a tougher time moving the ball.

Of course, with our problems of being so thin in the secondary, bad weather hampering the passing game is going to help them out as well. It might come down to who can run it more effectively and who's better at avoid turnovers, penalties and the dreaded special teams mistakes. I think this one will be very close and probably lower scoring than most of our other games.

If the forecast is wrong and the weather is more cooperative to where we can utilize our entire passing attack, that should give us the advantage.

This one has me very nervous. The media kept asking our players in the presser about worrying about a letdown vs Memphis (I didn't expect one because Memphis is pretty darn good), but this is where I fear a possible letdown. Plus, the weather today plays much more into not disrupting what Buffalo does well over what BG Has excelled in doing. We need to jump on these guys early and put them behind because the longer a team like UB hangs around us, it could spell trouble. I have picked against us each week so far and follow it up with "I hope I'm wrong." Today I'm gonna pick us and really hope I'm right.
