Re: BG vs UB game thread
Wow this is shocking. I thought this game was just about done at 28-9 with 14 minutes left. Clearly our defense has been punished and worn down and Babers made a good call to go for it on that 4th down even though it didn't work.
Well, offense you're going to have to do something now.

I'll take it

A win is a win. It wasn't always pretty, but 1-0 looks pretty good right now. Great job by the O line and TG on that last drive. It could have slipped away right there, but they ground it out and finished strong.

It sure wasn't pretty but I'll take the win. Anyone who thinks we're just gonna waltz through the MAC, today was a big example of how we're gonna get everyone's best shot each and every single week. I would say this win was tougher than either the Maryland or Purdue wins.
GO BG!!!

One of the knocks on this team has been the inability to get tough yards in crunch time. Well BG sure looked great killing off those last 5 minutes huh?
Definitely more drama in the end than it had to be, but BG gets it done by a 28-22 score.

Re: BG vs UB game thread
I had no problem at all going for it on fourth and one near the end of the first half. I also did not mind the decision to throw in that situation. BG lined up in a power I as if to run, Buffalo called time out, so BG changed up, went out there in a spread formation and threw. It was a reasonable decision to make.
This was closer than I expected, but I'll take the win. It was great to see the Falcons run the ball and run clock near the end. We've had plenty of teams that would have struggled on that last drive.

I really wanted to say hats off to the defense, then I looked and saw it allowed 34 first downs and 500 yards! Licata also outpassed Johnson 348 to 324 which I wouldn't have seen coming. But that sad, they did force a few FG's and had a big int, but still.

I'll say hats off to the defense..they let Licata and his guys run around between the 20's and kept them out of the endzone. Well done!!
When we needed to play keep away at the end we ran the ball down their throats...spread teams aren't supposed to be able to go jumbo and grind it out. We can

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Travis Greene is an all time great, as is Johnson really.
all bowling green
Re: BG vs UB game thread
Another thing that jumped out at me after looking at the box score, Buffalo threw the ball 30 more times than BG did! Johnson threw 29 times and Licata threw it 59 times. Crazy.
GO BG!!!

Both guys are ballers, and so is Lewis.

Re: BG vs UB game thread
Just got back from the family event we attended...had to listen to the game on the radio in the 2nd half but that's cool. Travis Greene is a beast...
Just keep winning...all that matters. I was feeling pretty good at 28-9 thinking one more score and we put them away.
Could be worse. CMU beat NIU today.

Re: BG vs UB game thread
Fun game to be at, weather really kept the crowd down as there were a ton of people milling around during the tailgate. Just a few observations.
- I thought the defense played well despite giving up a lot of yardage. Sanford's interception in the end zone ended up being a huge play and likely the deciding factor. Buffalo really used their TEs to their advantage and I suspect other teams will do the same against BG. The middle of the field was wide open many times on passing routes.
- OL played a great game in helping to establish the run and eventually run out the clock late. Dietz and Beggan left with injuries so we will see what happens there. Greene was a monster and looked like the guy who broke the rushing record in 2013.
- For those wondering about Rhodes, he appeared injured on the sidelines. I noticed him riding the stationary bike a few times and he was clutching his left shoulder when he came off after the game. Some people I spoke to as well commented that he and Matty J haven't been able to get on the same page yet and it's a big factor in why he's not playing.
All in all, it was a good but sloppy road win against a team who was motivated to beat BG. UB fans were nice to us and some of them are already fed up with Leipold's conservative play calling.
