During the TV broadcast, Coach McCloud (wide receivers) appeared to speak to Lewis on the sidelines and say something along the lines of "it isolates you" in regards to the celebration and how the moment should be shared with teammates.

Last year the selfie stuff was actively promoted and encouraged on Twitter. IMO the refs go too far in stifling the joy and emotion that naturally derives from the game, but when you're aware of that going in you've still got to play by their rules. The worst thing that could happen is if something like that cost us a game. I remember last year the players started doing some type of military-style salute after TD's, perhaps a ironic dig at the referees and the formality with which they want them to act.

The throat slash or choke gestures will get flagged every time and they should...that's not celebrating, it's taunting with a really nasty overtone. That is the kind of stuff you have to reel them in on.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Don't go blaming the officials.

SECTION 2. Unsportsmanlike Conduct Fouls
Unsportsmanlike Acts
ARTICLE 1. There shall be no unsportsmanlike conduct or any act that
interferes with orderly game administration on the part of players, substitutes,
coaches, authorized attendants or any other persons subject to the rules, before
the game, during the game or between periods. Infractions for these acts by
players are administered as either live-ball or dead-ball fouls depending on
when they occur. (A.R. 9-2-1-I-X)
a. Specifically prohibited acts and conduct include:
1. No player, substitute, coach or other person subject to the rules shall
use abusive, threatening or obscene language or gestures, or engage in
such acts that provoke ill will or are demeaning to an opponent, to game
officials or to the image of the game, including but not limited to:
(d) Any delayed, excessive, prolonged or choreographed act by which
a player (or players) attempts to focus attention upon himself (or
themselves).

Blame the individuals on the Rules Committee (coaches, athletic directors, and university presidents).

People get upset because they feel officials don't enforce the rules, then they get blamed for enforcing rules.

Third consecutive game this year with double digit penalties including multiple personal fouls. Week after week we hear Babers talk about getting it cleaned up, and week after week they continue to mount.

The new NCAA stats are out. BG is now all alone for the most penalties in the entire country, 32 of them for 300 yards. For comparison sake, Georgia Tech has just 6 penalties for 54 yards in three games.

All penalties are frustrating, but there is no reason for the celebration flags. You can coach technique to avoid holds, PIs, etc. Sometimes, sh*t just happens. But the ongoing trend the last several years of unsportsmanlike conducts after scoring is infurating to me.

Was great to see Roger Lewis run straight for the sidelines after his first score and celebrate there.

We watched a replay of the game and it was not shown. I know a lot of BG fans booed but not a questionable call when you put your hand around your throat as if cutting off their head. As stated, goes back to lack of discipline by this team and the coaches. i love the energy, but look like you have been there before and celebrate on sidelines. Did like seeing teammates grabbing pl;ayers and stopping the on field celebrations, but coaches shpuld be leading.

Beat Memphis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for letting me know. I didn't get to see it on TV as, like you said, it wasn't shown. That throat slash is the dumbest thing a player can do.

This stat can be a little misleading given the number of plays the team has been on the field for, both offensively and defensively. The more plays run, the higher likelihood of infractions.

That being said, it's the type of penalties and when they occur which bothers me the most. Unsportsmanlike calls and holds/blocks in the back on special teams really put the offense in a hole. I'm still upset that unsportsmanlike ended up costing the team an extra point that could have potentially changed how the game was played late.

The good news is the penalties were finally under double digits vs Buffalo. We still had 7 for 70 yards including a few personal fouls, but that's below what we've been averaging. The bad news is BG still leads the NCAA with 49 penalties through 5 games. For comparison sake, Ball State has just 17 through 5 games. That's 32 more for BG than BSU over the same amount of games. Crazy. Georgia Tech has just 11.

But I didn't see anything brought on by excessive celebration or taunting, so there is that.
