Akron at BG Predictions

Post by BGSU33 »

Babers wasn't just talking-up Akron's defense. Nearly half of their starters on defensive are Power 5 transfers including three of their four starting Front-4 (both DE's are from Ohio State, a DT is from Iowa State). Their MLB is a Washington State transfer and their CB is a Miami (FL) transfer. The P5 transfers aren't only on defense, they also have an OL from Ohio State and a WR from Louisville. They also have a G5 RB transfer from Colorado State. Babers said this Front-7 will be like what we faced in much of the non-conference when we played three P5 teams, which makes complete sense based on what was stated above. Their offense really sputtered early on but they've settled in with Woodson at QB and look much better and pretty much exploded last week.

I expect more of the kind of game we had vs Purdue or Buffalo in this one. BG and OU are the only undefeated teams in the East just two weeks in and there's only 4 undefeated teams in the MAC (UT and WMU). OU has already beaten Akron so we need to do the same (you never know if or what kind of tie-breakers may come down the road). OU plays WMU so I'm hoping Fleck can Row The Boat in Athens this week to help out the Falcons.

UA - 29
BG - 34

BG 45
Akron 34

The offense makes enough plays while the defense forces a couple of turnovers to put the game out of reach.

BG 49-23. Akron's O will move the ball but our bend, don't break, D keeps them out the of end zone and they settle for 3 FG's.

I wouldn't say our defense is bend but DON'T break. It actually breaks quite often, but I agree with the sentiment.

48-31 BG is my prediction with the game being close early on with alternating cores but BG's offense hums along the entire game and Akron finds a way to beat themselves with unforced errors.

I agree. In fact, I would say it often breaks but sometimes only bends.

We are giving up an average of 30.4 pts a game since the TN game. That is improving. We have done a decent job of keeping teams out of the end zone enough where our offense overwhelms them.

I don't expect Akron to score more than 24 and Kent State even fewer.

Half full or half empty...guess it depends on how you want to look at things. I tend to look for the positives.

I think the team will be pumped for homecoming and win 41-24. I think we will pull away in the second half, every game is huge now. Ohio has a real shot at winning the division if we don't handle ourselves against them, WMU and TSUN. Let's hope we can just take care of business and not have to worry about the other teams, Roll Along!

Akron runs around a lot between the 20's and settles for FG's on a number of 1st half possessions. We go petal to the metal and score TD's....forcing Akron to throw a lot more than they wanted to in the second half.

An average of 30.4 with the last game giving up 38 actually means it is worsening, but semantics I guess.

Looking for the positives is something I should probably do more of when thinking about this coaching staff as opposed to the last one, but I appreciate you doing that.

My point was that our defense has regressed to the point that I am shocked when they go out there and don't give up any type of points on a defensive drive and that saddens me. I hope so much that I am wrong and our defense can go out there and shut me up and put in a great performance against the Zippies, but I am not going to hold my breath over it.

Either way...GO FALCONS!!! BEAT THE ZIPS!

Going give up yards and points with this offense. Some will never get it.

I completely agree. I really hope our team isn't looking ahead (that's the job of us fans) but if we slip up in the MAC, Ohio very well could win the East. Remember, last year we won the East because we were the best team in a poor division, and we wrapped up the East with a couple weeks left in the season without any pressure whatsoever. That won't be the case this year at all. Ohio has already beaten Akron so we must do the same tomorrow, and if you look at Ohio's opponents, OU has an easier road than BG does as they got to play Miami in the East (which BG doesn't) and in OU's West crossovers games, they have an easier road than BG does as they have two homes games vs the West (BG has just one) and they also don't have to play Toledo (but BG does). Bottom line is, BG must....MUST.... beat Ohio on November 4th to win the East in one way shape or form because it's very likely going to play into the mix of a possible tie-breaker at the end of the year as I could easily see us finishing tied with them at the end and not ahead of them in the standings. That said, WMU could do us a huge favor and beat OU, but I'm not banking on that happening. But more importantly, let's beat Akron first. Right now we still control our own destiny. But if we get tripped up, we lose control over that. Need to bring it every single game.

The D gave up 31...UMass scored a TD on a KO return as well as a junk TD when the backups were in on D. I'm not saying our D doesn't have issues or needs improvement. We have a banged up secondary and teams know they cannot run on us effectively. As long as we gets some stops and keep forcing TO's, the D is doing it's job.
