Re: Akron at BG Predictions
I'm praying that one of these games we come out and something just clicks on special teams. I know they are putting backups on ST since we already have a lot of injuries, but come on, just let it bounce into the end zone. imagine if we didn't have 2 drives a game start inside our own 20 due to dumb penalties or bad returns. ironically though, some of these instances have led to 90 yard Roger Lewis bombs! Anybody else get stressed out every time we return a kickoff?
Re: Akron at BG Predictions
This team has taken a lot of heat for the penalties and special teams, and being undisciplined. While I feel it is somewhat justified, they don't get much credit for taking care of the ball. Running 80-100 plays a game and only turning the ball over 5 times is pretty darn good.
I'm in the camp since game one that any kick into the endzone should be downed. Good kick returners get one to two steps of momentum before catching the ball. These guys take a second to think about it after catching it and that is rarely going to end well.

I definitely agree, Matty J and the backs have done excellent job protecting the ball. Let's hope they can do that against a good Akron defense this week.kdog27 wrote:This team has taken a lot of heat for the penalties and special teams, and being undisciplined. That's fair on the TD on special teams. Forgot about that one. I guess I just can't seem to be ok with giving up that many points to whomever no matter how good our offense is. Injuries are a factor, but shouldn't be an excuse.Falconfreak90 wrote:The D gave up 31...UMass scored a TD on a KO return as well as a junk TD when the backups were in on D. I'm not saying our D doesn't have issues or needs improvement. We have a banged up secondary and teams know they cannot run on us effectively. As long as we gets some stops and keep forcing TO's, the D is doing it's job.svillefalcon wrote:An average of 30.4 with the last game giving up 38 actually means it is worsening, but semantics I guess.Falconfreak90 wrote:We are giving up an average of 30.4 pts a game since the TN game. That is improving. We have done a decent job of keeping teams out of the end zone enough where our offense overwhelms them.
I don't expect Akron to score more than 24 and Kent State even fewer.
Half full or half empty...guess it depends on how you want to look at things. I tend to look for the positives.
Either way...GO FALCONS!!! BEAT THE ZIPS!
Truthfully the penalties bother me more than the defense. Committing that many penalties week in and week out is on coaching. It is probably the #1 gripe I have about Babers. Hopefully we get it rectified.

I can't see any team without good offense keeping up with us..Our offense puts so much pressure on opposing teams to score with us and if our defense gets one or two stops early before the other team knows it they are down two scores. Unless our offense has an awful game, I can't imagine us anything other than 9-2 when TSUN comes to the Doyt. Maybe I'm overconfident but hey, thats just how I see it.

We would be 8-2. Still have one more game after that. Last 4 games will be challenging.BGSU1 wrote:I can't see any team without good offense keeping up with us..Our offense puts so much pressure on opposing teams to score with us and if our defense gets one or two stops early before the other team knows it they are down two scores.
