Who else wants a rematch in the MACC???

Post by slashba33 »

Still trying to swallow that pill from last night, but have no doubts that WE beat ourselves!!! 99 out of 100 times Matty to Lewis on the opening play is caught for a first down, but the one time started the self-beat down of epic proportions. When you can't get out of your own way with 5 TOs and costly, drive killing penalties, this is what you get. We have the better team and if Toledo is wondering, I would not want to play us again this year!!

Bowling Green is capable of beating Toledo, but that was the best team we played all year. Not sure I want to go through that again.

No...I don't want them to have the satisfaction of playing in the MACC.

You think Toledo is better than Memphis?

Yes, I do.

Also, to Redwingtom's point: Why would we wish for Toledo to have the satisfaction of playing for a championship? Championships are what we play for in Bowling Green. The game will be on TV if the Rocket coaches and players want to watch.

What would be sweeter than beating Toledo after losing 6 in a row in the biggest game of the year for a conference title?? If the table was turned and we won 44-28...would you want to play them again?? Do you really think we turn the ball over 5 times again? It's damn hard to beat a team twice in the same season! Sounds like our team and fan base is taking on the same approach with our biggest rival. Win in the crappy EAST, bend over and take it 6 years in a row from TSUN and pray that another WEST team beats them and they don't go to the MACC.

If Toledo is the opponent, so be it. A chance to reverse this streak against these pesky Rockets would be great. But I am also enjoying the fact that the Rockets haven't even made it into the championship game since 2004. And I think our chances of a MAC title would be better against either Northern Illinois or Western Michigan.

At the end of the day, I want real hardware. Fifty years from now, banners will still be up in Perry Stadium noting all our MAC titles. If Toledo wants to put banners up in the Glass Bowl noting all their wins over Bowling Green, that's up to them.

I'm hoping for a banged up NIU. Toledo is built to beat BG.

Run the football, control the clock. Check
Get pressure with just 3-4 guys. Check
Limit explosive plays - Check.

I'll echo that was the best team BG has played. They laid an absolute egg vs NIU. I did not expect their defensive line to beat up the BG offensive line that bad.

I'll say this about the MAC Championship...Of the three teams we could face between UT, WMU or NIU, it goes without saying UT would have me extremely concerned. Like it or not, UT owns BG and we keep finding ways to lose to them, so they would be the team I least want to face. We have proven we can beat WMU because we just did it a few weeks ago but they could give us a better game than what we saw in Kalamazoo. I could see them using UT's blueprint as they are somewhat similar in what they want to do. And with UT and WMU, these would be regular season rematches. NIU is the team I feel most confident in beating and it would be great to get some revenge for last year's championship game loss.

Now, that all said, if we will/do win the MAC Championship game, it would get no better than to beat UT doing it. But from where we stand right now, my pecking order of who I like our chances against would go NIU, then WMU, then UT.
GO BG!!!

To be the best, you have to beat the best, I want another shot at these MFers with Matty Johnson at QB. Last nights debacle was due largely to a lack of focus and execution, I saw Toledo players playing very physical, while BG players were passive and flat. Eliminate the TO's, clamp down on the run defense, and for Gods sake wrap up and run through the person you are tackling, especially since Hunt is as big or bigger than everyone we have in the LB and DB corps, trying to arm tackle this guy killed us, how many times did we have him stopped for a 1-2 yard gain, and he turns that into a 5+ yard gain.

Love the fact that we're going to Detroit again, but damn, it'll feel a whole lot more satisfying when there's at least one half decent team in the MAC East other than BG....

Not to just pick on you, but we hear this all the time...and it makes no sense here. How many times in college football history have two teams played each other twice in the same season? It's not exactly a huge pool of evidence to draw any conclusions from.

There have been 24 instances of two teams meeting in the conference championship game after meeting during the regular season (see below). Teams that won the regular season game are 15-9 in the rematch. Granted that says we have a 40% chance of winning the next game based on this, but we had a 60% chance of winning last night based on the odds makers!! To quote tvosra87, to be the best we need to beat the best. We beat the best in 2013 and I want another chance at it.

I'll only be going to Detroit if BG plays WMU or Toledo. I've no interest seeing them playing NIU again.
