C'mon... we all want to be rational but it's more fun to lash out and talk s**t....
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Mike Jinks to BGSU?
I understand why people want him here, right now. But, by that line of thinking you would be telling the old coaches (current Syracuse guys) to take a hike and just focus on the Orange now. There would be no bowl game.Flipper wrote:C'mon... we all want to be rational but it's more fun to lash out and talk s**t....
It's just another reason the NCAA needs to fix the way all of these hirings are handled.
BTW....interestingly Jinks buyout doesn't decrease until December 15th now, after the dead period starts. Will is deter P5 schools? No. But, it's a few extra dollars in BG's pockets.

Once again.....the BG assistant coaches that are still here were not HIRED TO BE THE HEAD COACH. There is a difference.Falcon137 wrote:I understand why people want him here, right now. I do agree.....this is a system needing fixing.

Well played, Kingston.Falcon137 wrote:BTW....interestingly Jinks buyout doesn't decrease until December 15th now, after the dead period starts.
Also, according to The Blade, Jinks told a San Antonio TV station that he will "split time between coaching for the Texas Bowl and recruiting." If that doesn't calm our fears, I'm sure he will in today's introduction.

Look at that Syracuse is paying our expenses for the bowl game.

Just a heads up. 12:30 press conference is streaming on ESPN3.

That press conference was a little lacking on substance.

I think Dino Babers learned a lot about how to deal with the media when he was here, and I expect Mike Jinks will as well.

Honestly, he seemed a bit ill at ease... And the lack of questions didnt help him get warmed up.

Was Wagner from the Blade even there? There were 4 questions? Kind of odd.

Re: Mike Jinks to BGSU?
I thought Jinks seemed excited but a bit nervous... but the lack of media questions was unexpected, from watching on ESPN3 it didn't even seem like there was as many media there as there normally are at events like that.Class of 61 wrote:Honestly, he seemed a bit ill at ease... Being his first college HC job, it'll take a bit of time for Jinks to get comfortable with the media, I'm sure he's dealt with them before but now he's THE guy of an NCAA DI program. Personally, I'd rather be grilled with questions than stand up there looking out at the crowd and it's silent like there seemed to be at times. He'd probably get in the groove more if it was rapid fire questions.

Re: Mike Jinks to BGSU?
I suspect media weren't asking more questions in the news conference because Jinks didn't really answer the ones he was given. Media were probably eager to get to one-on-one interviews, where hopefully Jinks gave them a little more to work with.
Re: Mike Jinks to BGSU?
Agreed on the 1-on-1's. I give credit to the couple of TV guys who asked questions outside of the personal "I'm standing here with the new coach" interviews they'll likely use on their 6pm show tonight. And if you're a reporter who knows you're getting a 1-on-1 interview after the dog and pony show, why would you give the competition the soundbites that come from your questions?Schadenfreude wrote:I suspect media weren't asking more questions in the news conference because Jinks didn't really answer the ones he was given. Yeah, it kind of sucked. But I remember not being too impressed with Dino's first conference either. I think you're right, he'll grow in time.Schadenfreude wrote:Indeed.jpfalcon09 wrote:That press conference was a little lacking on substance.
