You could just tell BG thought they were going to put up 70 points, and didn't think GSU could keep up. Boy were they wrong. I was disappointed with the overall effort, as soon as things didn't go our way, the team packed it in. A MAC Championship is a great accomplishment, but I wonder if we would have faced a healthy MAC West team if we'd have won..
Actually this was pretty much a non surprise to me. I lived through the Denny Stolz departure. Remember 51-7 loss to Fresno St shortly after Stolz claimed the undefeated Falcons "are the best MAC team ever." VERY easy to lose focus in these situations as they play out......
We, seniors included, could not deal with the speed that emerged in the second half, mainly Upshaw. We do a nice job of recruiting players to win MAC championships and beat the likes of Purdue. And face it, that is about it in a good year.
We were beaten by a pretty good no name team that beat the heck out of Western Michigan earlier this year.

I'm drawing a blank trying to think of a BG team that has ever done this. Get behind 2 scores or the moment things go South they pack it in. Has led to some embarrassing games.

Having a hard time remembering for certain, but I find it hard to believe that Urb's teams weren't mentally tough enough to deal with adversity. One of his great abilities is building a mentally tough team that always find a way to feel "disrespected", and try to make a statement.

Certainly it's been a major issue under our last few head coaches though. We either come out firing, or we don't. This game felt over when we got down by 2 scores in the 2nd half and with our offense that just shouldn't be the case.

And the team totally packed it in to make that a self fulfilling prophecy.

Blackney's (first 2 years) and Urban Meyer's teams kept fighting. Also had heart as well and had good poise and maturity.

GS had everything to play for and played hard the whole game, we didn't. We've lacked defensive talent the whole year, and then our best defensive player last night.

I'm looking forward to a new system with a run game expert. We'll also have more talent on defense, a deep OL, and talent at QB. And I hope Coach Jinks recognizes Flippers comment above.

Yeah I guess the last team that could get in a back and forth game and you still expected a win was the 2003 team. I know it was GB then but they still played like they were under Meyer.

BG has let some mediocre teams absolutely destroy them since 2005. Tulsa, WV, VT, Wisconsin, Indiana WKU and last night come to mind. Maybe mediocre isn't the best way to describe all those teams but none of them were great. The second half of those games BG looked like an over matched high school team. Lose with some damn dignity.

Good hard fought contest. I was very impressed with your QB's uncanny ability to find a receiver no matter how harassed he was. BG has a good thing going and I'll be watching for highlights of them next year.

I wish you all the success in the world next year with the new staff in place. I know I'm really interested to hear from our new HC today at his introductory press conference. Hopefully he'll keep a few of the current assistants on.

Who knows, maybe the ADs could get together and schedule a regular season home and away sometime in the near future. Would really like to see those two play again outside of a monsoon!

Come see us sometime. We're just 45 minutes inland from Savannah!

Obviously, you're trying to be nice. It isn't necessary. Our team did not show up last night...at all. You only saw a ghost of the team that played most of the season on offense. Now defensively? Yeah, we're probably just as bad as we looked last night. This game was a mismatch from the time it was announced.

Well hell, since there's no need to be nice! I've never seen such a ... nah, can't do it.
The first half I was cussing the t.v. & our secondary coaches. Even with the weather, thought we were fixing to get taken to the woodshed with the accuracy of most of the passes. Why would they even try to run,I kept thinking. Conversely I was thinking same thing about our passing. Your D did pretty good at slowing Brieda down. Then Upshaw came out and took it to a whole other level. Proud vocal fans are hard to find in the G5, you guys certainly have that. But mediocre, sub-par, overmatched, come on now! Yeah, Southern may be little known. You do know around these parts, Bowling Green isn't exactly a household name ether. But Western Michigan knows who we are, as do Ga. Tech, UGA, Alabama and Florida . We had our down game a few weeks ago against Ga State. (In our house, talk about embarrassing! And I won't even mention App. St. Or WV.) Glad the right team showed up last night. Good luck on your new coach and staff.(and to ours as well!) I to would like to see a home & home in the future with a full stadium and a lil' less of the wet stuff I usually try to jaw with the opponent a little more than I did before this game. Hopefully we'll get another chance, think that Ga. State game just took the wind out of my sails.
Merry Christmas Y'all & Hail Southern !!!

Congrats to GSU. You guys earned it no doubt. No excuses either. Even if we didn't fumble twice inside our 15, I still don't think we would have won because we simply couldn't get our defense off the field. I was actually in Statesboro and at GSU this past summer. Really enjoyed visiting campus and the stadium. I liked the older part of campus by the oval drive and really liked the football stadium. The upper deck addition and the other new end zone facility are very nice. It really makes the stadium look and feel much more substantial than before. I wish you all luck in the future and just hope we don't play again any time soon. I still have images of your QB running dancing in my head. Gonna be tough to forget about that second half but the better team that night won without a doubt.
GO BG!!!
