Bonus points for the use of A-Z-Z as opposed to that Talons Up! nonsense.

While I didn't mind "talons up", much better that we use A-Z-Z and Roll Along....

LOVE THIS!!!We must Roll Along, you mighty Falcons!

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Not sure if anyone commented on this but BG finished last in the Reese and second to last in the Jacoby cup standings...How is this acceptable? Greg Christopher absolutely destroyed this athletic department. There needs to be a push for some significant changes...number one being getting the teams back to their full scholarship allotments...otherwise look to cut some sports, no point in having teams that can't compete.

These trophies aren't the full measure of our program. Hockey, which doesn't count to my knowledge, has been improving, for example. That's not to say this doesn't bear watching, but our two most popular sports at Bowling Green are doing very well. Personally, I'll take a MAC football trophy over the Reese or Jacoby every year.apollo wrote:Not sure if anyone commented on this but BG finished last in the Reese and second to last in the Jacoby cup standings...How is this acceptable?
In principle, I don't disagree. But I assume there are limits to where we can cut. We need to field a minimum number of teams to stay in FBS, for example, and I don't know how close we are to that minimum. There needs to be a push for some significant changes...number one being getting the teams back to their full scholarship allotments...otherwise look to cut some sports, no point in having teams that can't compete.

I was waiting for a JFK/Man on the Moon-type declaration of intent to get the job done, but his m.o. seems to be to tread cautiously and assess the situation more carefully first. So long as the end result is achieved I suppose style is irrelevent.

The football stadium is a losing venture...I think it is realistic that the MAC will be forced to make some very difficult decisions in regard to football in the coming decade. Everything is trending toward a separation between Power 5 and the rest of the schools.

Strongly disagree. If the MAC weathered the late 1970s and 1980s as a I-A conference, we will get through whatever it is you think is going on right now.apollo wrote:The football stadium is a losing venture...I think it is realistic that the MAC will be forced to make some very difficult decisions in regard to football in the coming decade. I don't see an existential crisis at all. In many ways, the MAC is in a much stronger position in FBS than we were back then. The line between MAC and any FCS conference is very bright, and this wasn't necessarily the case 30 years ago.
We play a very competitive brand of football in this league. Just ask Purdue or Maryland. We belong here.

The line between us an the P5 is brighter and they make the rules. I don't understand this obsession with being D1...why is it so important?

Re: Open letter from Moose
How can you say that? Bowling Green hasn't lost to an FCS program since the 1980s. We've beaten three out of the last four Big Ten teams we've played.Flipper wrote:The line between us an the P5 is brighter
Re: Open letter from Moose
As for the stadium, some upgrades are desperately needed but replacing is not economically feasible at this time. It only should matter as to is on the field. While we have had some interesting teams who have played at the four, I am not convinced a new stadium would bring in the dough, especially in November during the week.
As for D1 fbs or D1 FCs or D2, I don't know the typical fan would know or understand but the players will. It is called the competitive nature of our athletes. We scholarship talented students who want to showcase their talents against their peers. And let's be honest, we as fans feel similarly otherwise there wouldn't be stats on how many times we beat a big 10, 12, 15 or how whatever they call themselves today, or let's beat the team south if us a bout an hour or so, comments. Just like any competition we do gauge ourselves against those p5 teams. Many on AZZ do this before and after any sport game.

I'd just like to see our sports have a chance to win...especially baseball. Overspending on a few sports doesn't seem to be working. Football is doing a nice job, and hockey is winning although they are playing a mediocre schedule.
Bottom line, BG has to find a way to get more money to athletics if we are going to have hockey...you can't underfund athletics then overspend on 5 sports. It doesn't work and hasn't worked the 6 years it's been done.

Re: Open letter from Moose
The Golden rule...he who has the gold makes the rules. You and I have a vastly different view re the definition of D1...at least with respect to football. Given the structure of the playoff...there's really only about ten teams with a legit chance to make the show....they're all members of the P5. There is no way a MAC school will ever be in that four team playoff..it's a rarity for a MAC school to ever be in the low teens in the polls..the gulf between say #12 and #4 is virtually insurmountable. The process was built to exclude us and the rest of non P5 schools from ever getting there. The upper echelon of the P5 is the actual D1. We're there to make things look legit...the MAC is truly a Potemkin village.Schadenfreude wrote:How can you say that? Bowling Green hasn't lost to an FCS program since the 1980s. Yep..we beat the bottom tier P5 schools that we played...so? They're every bit the cannon fodder for the upper echelon that we are...they're just paid better. I don't know...again...I'm at a loss why this matters? who cares if we call ourselves D1? Who cares if we beat Purdue..or Maryland...hell who cares if we beat OSU? Will the skies part and a glowing Goddess appear? Sure..we can brag for a bit..who cares about that?

Re: Open letter from Moose
What you've described is s not a line between the P5 and the G5. You've described a hypothetical line (which does not exist) between the ten wealthiest programs and everyone else. There is no bright line between the 10th and 11th wealthiest team in FBS.Flipper wrote:The Golden rule...he who has the gold makes the rules. With that line of thinking, why maintain an athletics department at all?I'm at a loss why this matters? who cares if we call ourselves D1? If you don't like football, there are forums for basketball and hockey here, but your existential questions are just as valid in those places.
I love beating Big Ten schools. It's one of my favorite aspects of Falcon football. If you don't enjoy that, I'm not sure how to explain it to you.
