Embarrassed by kneeling players

People on here are goddamn idiots. I've thought we've had terrible fans since my introduction to BG 24 years ago. Now I know they're also idiots. How about talking to the players before jumping to conclusions? If you think our players were disrespecting something or you're offended by something, go to hell.

Well...if that's the case...it's still on the BGSU Coaches/support staff/etc. Being unorganized to the point of not knowing the pregame schedule isn't a real good excuse. With the publicity that Kaepernick has been getting it is easy to see why some of our fans thought it wasn't just a mix up in the schedule. Hopefully it will be corrected in the future and there won't be anymore confusion.

Details, details, details......................... might explain the result of the game.

For most Mid-American Conference and other regular season games, our football team enters the stadium after the National Anthem has played and, due to our unfamiliarity with the pre-game schedule at Ohio Stadium, some of our players were kneeling in silent prayer during parts of the anthem Saturday. It is a long-standing tradition for a number of our players to pray before each game in the end zone for the safety of players on both teams. Unfortunately, yesterday they were unaware of when the anthem would be played.

Ohio State did provide us with the pregame schedule and it was posted in the locker room, but the change in routine was not specifically announced to our players. In the future, we will make a concerted effort to point out specific changes to the routine. We apologize for the misunderstanding.

Please stop posting factual information, as it goes against everything that many of us believe in. As a typical poster on this board, I did not see what happened, but my best friend's cousin's brother's neighbor's boyfriend told me that Ferris Bueller passed out at 31 Flavors last night, and that a player or two might have been kneeling when the national anthem started. So, I'm going to stop supporting BGSU Athletics from now until the end of time, and I'm going to send an angry letter to Matthew Broderick. Please don't try to cloud our minds with your 'facts' -- I'm busy trying to go on angry rants with my misguided 'rage.'

I was sitting not far from the end zone where the BG players knelt during the national anthem. I was completely and utterly embarrassed by their actions, and ashamed for the university. When the anthem started, we were saying "stand up...stand up!" My heart sank to my stomach when they remained kneeling. It was not enough to kneel; a couple had to glare into the stands after the anthem like they were bad asses. Guess what...you were bad alright. In response, I will withhold my support for this team by not attending another game the rest of the season.

That glare now seems like a more than appropriate response to having a couple of jackasses yelling at you to "stand up" while you're trying to pray.

I have been attending BG games since 1982 and for years have gone to every single home and away game. Needless to say, I am quite familiar with player pre-game routines.

To their credit, most of the 20 or so BG players stood up as the anthem began. Six to seven did not, with one remaining kneeling until just a few seconds before the anthem ended and another who remained kneeling the entire time. Three players who stood as the anthem began returned to their knees and prayers after it ended. That was the proper way to handle it. The player who defiantly gazed into the stands is the one who remained kneeling the entire time.

So what the players didn't know when the anthem began? They could hear the music, stand up! Not knowing the schedule is no justification for remaining down as the anthem began. I will not be convinced that some were not protesting.

Again, I've been going to BG games for 34 years. I don't say much, but this I could not let pass without a protest of my own. Players can do whatever they want, and so will I.

If any of them are Jehovah's Witnesses, they are not permitted to stand during the anthem. How do any of you think you know their motivations? Do you know the players personally? Maybe they were in mid-prayer? Maybe some of them have a real-life experience with unfair treatment with the police or justice system? The First Amendment is the most basic element of a democracy.

Get over yourselves.
