Re: Dieter to transfer
I know it's hard for some of us to understand but we care more about BG football than many of the former players. I have come across plenty who wouldn't be able to name a player on the team or tell you who BG plays this week.Schadenfreude wrote:Okay, but did you see it?cameron wrote:I don't know how anyone can be upset with anything Bautista said (and yes, I watched the game so I heard the whole interview).
Bautista is no longer a Falcon. That's clear. And let's be honest...None of those former players, no matter how much love they have for Urban, wanted to see the Falcons get blown out the way they did. They're still Falcons.
Maybe it was more like a job to them? Means to a free education and nothing more? They wanted to play somewhere else? I don't know just spit balling.

Re: Dieter to transfer
They didn't develop the emotional attachment to the University.... Is it worth building anger or holding a grudge against someone because they don't love what you love.....is it, OJ?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Dieter to transfer
Urban is, and always has been bigger than BG football. That's especially true for many those players that rallied around him while he was a young coach here.
BG fans just like to bitch and moan. So OSU is Bautista's favorite pro team...who gives a flying eff....

Yes there is.Flipper wrote:Once a Falcon...always a Falcon? Is there an asterisk on the end of that saying that I missed?
Just to make sure we're all clear (since your post came right after my post, I'm thinking you might have been referring to me), I wish no ill will upon Gehrig Dieter. He can attend as many schools as he wants, and if this is the best situation for him in his and in his parents' minds, that's great. But, I don't care if he has 1 catch or 100 catches this season. I don't follow Alabama football; I follow BGSU football.

Re: Dieter to transfer
He essentially quit to go to a better situation...it's nothing against him personally, but I can see why people wouldn't root for him. The rule is stupid...if you transfer you should have to sit out a year or drop to a lower division.
If a guy from U of M wants more playing time, transfer to Eastern Kentucky. If a guy from Bowling Green graduates and wants to go somewhere else, he should be more than free to do so, just not at another Bowl Subdivion school.
These kids get a free education, tutoring, strength training, nutrition, housing and now a stipend on top of it. Maybe at a few schools the kids are being exploited to a certain degree, but 90% of these kids are getting a lot more than they are bringing in. The biggest lie of the last few years is that these kids are being taken advantage of. Thus...all these bigger programs shouldn't be just plucking kids that graduated early from smaller programs and kids at bigger programs looking for more playing time should drop down a level.

Re: Dieter to transfer
Very disrespectful if you ask me. I'm sure he did have a relationship with Urban but didn't he also develop relationships with his teammates? You can argue it serves no point getting angry, but when you show up on the opposite sideline of the school that paid for your education then the fans of said school have every right to feel slighted. The tenor right now is to be told to shut up and accept the infatuation over OSU as either a) perfectly reasonable or b) merely the way of the world. Never going to happen from this poster.cameron wrote:Yes, I see that he is supporting his coach, who is now at Ohio State. I also see the orange #18 on the jersey. I get where you're coming from, I just don't have a problem with him supporting Urban. It comes down to relationships. He obviously still has a relationship with Meyer. Probably doesn't with Bowling Green anymore. I didn't feel like he disrespected BG though.
I think I get what you're saying with him wearing the Ohio State shirt.

+1. I get that he has a relationship with his old coach and wants to support him and wish him well. No problem with that on a personal level. I just think it's in bad taste for a former player to go on tv to publicly support an opponent of his alma mater. A lot of folks see it as a slap in the face. Sure, in the big picture it's not a life or death issue and the sun will still come up tomorrow, but that doesn't mean we have to like it. Of course he's got every right to express himself by supporting whoever he wants to, but don't knock people who exercise their right to express an opinion about it.mscarn wrote:Very disrespectful if you ask me. Oh please...some of you get all worked up over this nonsense. Is your day to day life diminished in any way, shape or form by the amount of coverage and attention OSU gets? I can think of...I don't know...an almost infinite number of issues that can occupy my attention before that one

I used to be one that got all worked up over this nonsense. I agree with those of you who are pissed, my first thought when I saw Bootista's (WWE fan, I had to throw that out there) shirt was "What the hell is that? He played for BG, not OSU). Immediately after, I thought, who gives a s**t. It doesn't really surprise me. I've just come to realize that that's the way it is. If he wants to sell out to the media for 30 seconds on national tv, it doesn't affect me. Most of us (myself included) didn't even know who he was until they showed his picture with the 2001 Senior Class.
Re: Dieter to transfer
As a BG grad who has lived in Ohio my entire life and now lives in the Columbus area, people jump on the OSU bandwagon for social reasons and for what they have to offer as a fan. For example, we are friends with a family that BOTH parents met and graduated from BG and so for the game this week, they post a FACEBOOK picture of the entire family dressed in OSU garb with the caption "GO BUCKS!!". So, other than trying to get noticed and received brownie points from everyone, why do that to YOUR SCHOOL??? I am sorry, you can root for whomever you want, but when it's against YOUR SCHOOL, it says a lot about someone to cave to take the easy route.

slashba33,
Great points. Makes me sick...you can't even put your alma mater first for ONE week?? And then I always hear how I should support osu. What the hell for?? Do these people support BG? No. Screw that.

I have been to several BIG Ten schools to watch us play and was harassed more this weekend at OSU than Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana, Michigan combined!! Another reason of 1000 reasons why I never was or will be a OSU fan and worship a NUT.
